I Need some help....
I have a 2001 f150 4.2 and I have noticed that as i am starting it up the battery seems to drain or rather the truck slow cranks. Now here lately the battery would be dead completely and I would have to push start the truck. I am thinking I should replace the battery.
with a multi meter set it to the DC side in the 20 range, and touch the prongs to the battery. Have someone start the truck (or try) if you see a drop of more than a couple volts, your battery is tanked. If the battery holds the load and starts, then leave multi-meter connected and if while running your get >12 and it is discharging, your alternator is shot.
I believe it is your battery, if you were having a charging issue you should bet the bettery on in your dash.

With the truck running and all accessories off, the voltage across the battery should be at least 13.5 volts, 14 is more like it. Anything less and you have a weak alternator. A fully charged battery will be at least 12.0 volts.
>=less than, if it reads 14 his alternator is fine. Are we saying the same thing?
