Question How much horsepower does a stock 4.2 liter make

Does any body know how much horsepower the 1999 4.2liter 4x4 sport makes stock?I'm putting on a supercharger and a superchip. I just wanted to know what I can expect to gain in performance.

Xanman,

I believe it's 205 hp. Your owner's manual has the listings for all engines near the back.

54regcab,
I got the supercharger from Powerdyne they don't have a full kit I just got the head, intake, and all the pressure couplings.I have to fabricate the brackets and the pressure pipe.It will be here the 10th, I cant wait. It's probably giong to take a week or two to finish with it.How about a guess on the HP?Oh by the way I will be installing 4.10 gears the first part of Jan.But first I've got to recover from these mods. Thanks for the intrest.

How much horsepower you will make is dependent on how much boost you are going to run. A good rule of thumb is 10 horsepower for every pound of boost. So if you are running 8# of boost, expect an 80 hp increase.

Question

Is that 10hp per lb of boost for V8s or V6s?
The bigger the motor the more Hp per pound of boost.

Red face

HotRodSix,

I will be runnihg 6lbs. of boost. So that will be roughly 60hp. right? But does the superchip give me any gains if so how much do you think? One more thing I have 32in. tires and I want to put in 4.10 gears do you think that will give me a good strong whole shot?

XanMan - 60 hp gain is about right. The Superchips will have to be calibrated for your supercharged application. The standard chip for the 4.2L will have too much timing for a supercharger. A chip will generally help a supercharged engine more than a naturally aspirated one (my chip gave me 10hp) because the stock computer runs out of range for the extra power. I'd expect 15-20 hp additional with the chip.

A 4.10 gear is not much with a 32" tall tire! That would be equivalent to 3.26 gear in a Mustang (can you say lazy launch on a 5000# truck?!!). I would go with a 4.30 or even a 4.56 with that tall of a tire. A 4.56 gear would be equivalent to a 3.63 gear in a Mustang.

Let us know how this works out for you.

HotRodSix,

Thanks for all useful information.Mike T. doing a custom program on the Superchip he said it will take about ten days.Reguarding the gears do they make 4.30 gears for the 4x4?The front is reversed I heard, do you know if that is true? Where did you get your gears done? The only place near me that will work on my 99 is Ford and they want $900.00+ just for the labor.A better price is worth a roadtrip!
