Coil Packs and Supercharger?
Coil Packs and Supercharger?
I'm starting to look into getting a Roush supercharger for my truck, and one of the other pieces I am considering adding along with the blower is coil packs. I was thinking of getting Granatelli Motor Sports Coil Packs, the Pro X Series set. Just looking for some feedback on this product, any of you Supercharged guys try em yet?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I've had the granatelli coil packs on for about 20,000 miles with my whipple. No problems. On the dyno, it added about 5-7 rwhp for me (if I remember, it did the same for the rwtq, too). There were some old threads about these coils periodically going bad but I haven't experienced that.
I suppose I could just keep my OEM pieces around and if I ever had an aftermarket one go I could swap em all back to OEM. I've heard that the aftermarket Coil Packs are more powerful, so they help to prevent detonation. Thats the main reason I want to get them if I get a Supercharger, more so then the extra 7 horsepower.
I run the Coil packs on my truck for over 30k now, they help when its humid out and the support from the guys at micro tech is great, I'm not sure how much more power it makes but its like a horsepower puzzel every piece counts!
Say with stock coil packs. There arent a need to go aftermarket, there are MANY MANY 10 and 9 Second Lightnings running stock coils. I hear problems with aftermarket packs all the time on the Lightning boards.

Stick with the stock ones. Buddy ran Granatelli ones one his GT and they never worked right. MSD is supposed to have a real setup for Ford Modulars but it's pricey.

Hmm, it sounds like they tend to fail alot. Maybe I'll scratch that off my list. Its not really the power I am after, just a bit of added protection against detonation. Thats my main worry with this getting a Supercharger idea.
So far I plan on buying the Roush I/C Supercharger Kit, having it installed by a local dealer who does all the Roush stuff around here. I am getting a Boost gauge aswell as a Wideband A/F gauge and I am getting a set of custom tunes from VMP. A performance tune, a towing tune and a detonation tune. Anybody got any suggestions on other parts I should get.

Like was said,,,Aftermarket COPs will not help with detonation!
That is all in the tune.
And what the heck is a (detonation tune.)????
You can make more power with the stock COPs on there then your stock block can hold up to.
I'm still running stock COPs but I do run a KB boost-a-spark.

I think its like a de-tune...in case you get bad gas or something, its easier on the motor. I don't know, I am all new to this for the most part, I've never put a Supercharger on a vehicle before.
