parking brake tore apart!
parking brake tore apart!
I just left my house, luckily, when I got this terrible metallic grinding banging sound from my left rear tire. I just removed the tire and disc brakes and found the parking brake shoes overlapping each other and all the parts fell out. all that is left is the brake cable. I then recalled backing out of my driveway a month ago with the parking brake engaged after replacing my front rotors/brakes.
So my question is 1. can I put the tire back on and all is well until I get the parking brake repaired? (I only used it when I had the truck jacked up for one repair or another) 2. is that a big job? do they sell all the parts in a kit or something?

On most cars you can junk the ebrake and it doesnt affect anything. I would say slap it together and drive it like you stole it, and then when you have time tear that junk out of the other side so you dont have another episode like this. As for doing repairs and using the ebrake, my solution is a couple logs or if ya wanna get fancy 4x4's work good to.
thanks so much for your help. I put the rotor, caliper, and tire back on. I didnt think it would matter but ya never know... mama wanted me to test drive b4 her and the kids would get in haha. I will look at the other side and tear it out if it looks bad. thanks again!
It is so simple to fix it. They have a spring kit and shoes available.. Mine were oil fouled (blown seal) so I replaced rotors, shoes, spring kit, seals and bearings. Nice to know I have addition help to hold my truck and trailer when I need it.
