how can I get 8" of lift without a 8" lift?

I am lookin into either the BDS 6" kit or the rough country 6" lift but I am wanting to run something bigger than a 35" tire. From what all of the manufacturer sites are saying is that I will only be able to run 35 12.50s. I am looking to run a 37 with no rubbing....I have a 06 ext cab 4wd 5.4. I have been told that if I were to buy a leveling kit, and add that after I add the 6" lift, it would work just fine but that just seems a little shady to me...the 6" BDS lift I saw already has a spacer above the coilover...I'm no expert but I don't believe that its too safe or durable to add a spacer on top of another spacer... but like I said, I could be completly incorrect. If anyone has ANY ideas at all about this, please speak up and help me out. thanks.

i am running the bds 6" kit. why not just get their new 8" kit its not to much more.

also i am considering getting rid of the spacer. i have a post in the suspension section on top of the page. you can get some bilsteins and it will get rid of the spacer so you can add a 2" kit on top. its like $350 i was told to do that. i have no complaints on my lift. but if your wanting 37's just do it right and do an 8" lift to keep your angles correct.

also you will need to regear to 4.88's in front and rear if you run 37's. about $1500.

Buy a set of 6" adjustable aftermarket coilovers such as Dirtlogic or Kings, and crank them up for an extra 2" = 8" of lift Many people on here have this type of setup. It's not cheap by any means, but that's probably the best and safest way to achieve it without actually buying a 8" lift.

You could also run the Fabtech 6" lift, with Dirt logic coilovers. Crank them an extra 2" and you'd fit 37" tires fine. Like already said, you should re-gear after this as well. Might also want a programmer or custom tunes to help gain some of the power back.

And yes, your right, you don't want to stack spacers. Either get a coilover kit, one with adjustable coilovers, allowing you to safely gain and extra 2" of lift, or just do the 8" lift (probably best bet).

BDS 6" and a body lift will work too. If done right, it looks pretty good.

If you get the right backspacing, you can get away with 37's on a 6" or less. I have seen it on here.

I agree. Just be careful with wheel selection. A 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing would be about the max if you try to squeeze on 37's with a 6 inch lift.

from what ive been told, i have a 6 inch pro comp lift with a 3" body lift. and im running 38x15.50's on 18x10" rims. the only rubbing i had was on the front end and that was because of those factory plastic pieces lining the wheel arches. i trimmed off the bottom pieces and i have no rub at full lock. im happy with my setup for now but am seriously considering the 12" Rize lift and leaving on the body lift so that i can (maybe) fit 47's. i know its a tough stretch with the IFS, but im ignorant and stubborn sometimes. gonna have to try it!

Thanks everyone for your input, I would LOVE to go with the 8" rize kit but the price does play in a factor..when the R.C. 6" kit is about 1200 and a 3" B.L. is about 400, I can get 8" under 2000....so if I get the proper backspacing rim and the right size tire, I can fit 37's? does anyone here have this setup or do you know someones page who does so I can check it out....I dont want it to look like one of those backwoods hillibilly trucks (stock ford ranger with so much tire you cant go over a speedbump without ripping off your fenders.) thanks.

beaurogel has a 11" of lift not 9 so dont get that confused thinking you can run 38's.

alot of people just have fabtechs w/ the dirtlogic coilovers cranked to 8" and run 37's just fine. so a 6" and a body lift should clear 37's easily.

parts you will need for your truck to be happy.
6" lift
3" body
regear 4.88's
programmer
intake if you want it
37's
rims

have you considered just doing a spacer and AAL instead of body lift. body lifts on the new body style are a pain in the butt i have heard. and you only yield 1" more of gains from a body lift. i would do a fabtech kit if you want to use a spacer.

are you installing yourself or having someone do it for you?

I would install the body lift because I have done a few in the past but as for the suspension lift, I will prob have a shop install it due to the time consuming part of it as well as liability. If they mess it up, they pay not me haha. with the BDS 6", can I put a spacer for the front? I believe that part of their lift in the front involves a spacer above the coilovers...I thought that I was not able to put a spacer on top of the lift's space?!

yes it has a spacer. you can basically run a fabtech style set up for about $350 i was told by running some bilsteins (not sure which ones). i think theres part numbers in my post and a link.

you do not want to double stack spacers.(but people have done it) and from what i have heard a suspension is easier to do than a body lift on the new body styles. and if you decide to install everything on your own everyone on here will help you along your install.

just wondering how much are you paying for your bds before and after installation?

I would have to agree here. Suspension lifts are time consuming, but doing a body lift on these newer trucks is a flat out PITA. Its much harder then the older trucks, and just takes a lot of measuring, checking, and re-checking to make sure everything lines up correctly and evenly. The suspension is pretty straight forwards, just takes a lot of work. Either way, i am sure you could do both, and like said above, if ya run into anything, this site is here to help !

Also, why stuck on BDS ? Don't get me wrong, great kit ! But you could get a Fabtech for dirt cheap anymore, or even a Pro-Comp ( but I would go Fabtech or BDS before Pro-Comp... personal choice ). Just makin sure ya know how cheap they are ! I am running the "Basic" kit, and they go for around $1300-$1400 delivered.

im gonna agree with mercedestech. for the price that he said fabtechs are going for i would get it. i do like the subframe better on bds lol but you could do a leveling kit on the fabtech with out any other parts like you would need for the bds. but if you plan on doing a body lift thats not big issue and go ahead and get a bds. also would suggest a AAL if you go with the bds. it will sit about an inch or so low in the rear

and most importantly of all. im sick of being the only person with a bds. (atleast that i know of)
