Im going to be painting my bed rails, wiper cowl and maybe around the back window today and i have a question.... should i use a clear coat? and do i need a primer? i know they go thro alot more the the parts i painted inside the truck... what extra stuff do i need to do cuz its in the weather? im going to be using krylon fusion gloss black paint.

 

I didn't use a primer on my cowl, and only half of it got clear coated (a little experiment to see if one side holds up better than the other).




Both sides have held up great so far.

I painted my cowl with the Fusion Satin and am pleased with the results. I did not want the glossy finish that clear would give. So far, holding up just fine. If I paint the rails, I will use the same.

 

Might want to get you some adhesion promoter.

 

I don't think so if you are using Fusion, It is included in the product.

 

I have noticed that most of you guys who paint your cowls, your wiper arms look new in the after pictures. Do you guys paint the wiper arms or just clean them?

 

I didn't do anything to mine other than remove and put them back on.

 

I painted mine... ill have pics soon... the truck is a little dirty... i need to wait till the paint fully cures... then a wash.. the some pics

So now i just need to tapeoff and do the tail gate handle and back window.. and i broke off alot of thoes tabs that hold the rails on but it still stays on there good so i think im fine

Yeah I did too.. I get about half way down the rail and the rest doesn't want to come off. What is the trick to these. BTW It looks real fresh. It looks like you used glossy on everything right?

 

Yea i used gloss... i did it yesterday, but it back on the truck let it sit, then took it today to run thro the carwash... and no chips of flakes so im good
