What kind of trailer tires??
I just purchased a used 16' flat deck tandem axle trailer. Got a good price vs. brand new, but the tires are shot.
I won't be hauling automobiles on it, mainly building supplies and junk; nothing too heavy.
-BUT, if the need arises, I want to have tires with a decent load rating if I need to tow a car... what to do?
"LT" tires? "P" tires? I have no idea where to start... (oh yeah, I don't want to spend a fortune!)
Thanks!

The problem with tandem axles is that they scrub against the pavement when you turn. This causes sidewall flex. Most passenger car tires do not have the sidewall built for this kind of wear. If you have 15" wheels, look into Goodyear Marathons or other brand trailer tires. If they are 16" then I'd get 235x85x16 load E

I agree whole heartedly with V-10man. I had a large, double axle trailer for a boat. To make a long story short ....I put replacement, passenger tires on one side and had a real mess on my hands - - after a couple of trips, had to replace with trailer tires due to edge/ sidewall wear and a shredded tire on I-95 at 70MPH with a 7000 - 7500 # load. Trailer tires are worth the extra effort (IMO).

There are special Radial Tires fot trailers with the heavier sidewalls. I have a 31 ft camper trailer. I bought these tires for my 22ft trailer and moved them to the 32ft trailer If i had to buy new tires I would get at least a load range D tires. The ones I have are load range C at about 1800 lb load range each times the 4 tires. The trailer has a gross weight of 7000 lbs. The tires are an ST205 75 /15. The ST is for trailers compared to a P215 75/15 which is a passenger car tire.
