Does anyone seriously despise this brand and type of car wax? I'm not talking about the spray on stuff. I'm talking about the paste. The stuff that gets on black plastic and NEVER comes out and green residue flakes off for days on end. I regret ever using this stuff.

What is a good spray on wax? Maguires? That Liquid Ice stuff?

 

I think that you are going to run in to what you talking about with just about any wax you apply. Most of us here tape off trim with 3M Blue painters tape to avoid the white residue you are talking about. The other thing to consider is are you putting product on to thick and it is flaking off? When you are using any kind of wax either paste or liduid remember one little say " Thin to win" it will help you quiet a bit. Hope this helps.

 

i use Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, works great, smells like bananas.

 

oh, and hit the black trim with a magic eraser, it'll take care of the wax.

 

That is a great idea, I never thought of that. My wife buys these things in bulk so I might as well give them a try on my truck.

Just be careful with them they have some caustic chemicals that may damage the paint. Your best bet to get it off is to use a QD and some elbow grease. Like I said before tape off the trim and you wont have the white residue on your trim and you wont run the risk of damaging the paint with unknown chemicals.

 

It's not the product, it's how it's used. Turtle Wax products are fine if applied and removed properly. Proper application is VERY THIN.

That said, I use Megs NXT 2.0 liquid and am completely satisfied with it. It also has to be applied VERY THIN or it can be a bear to remove.

 

Is wax even that big a deal? What exactly are the pluses of it?

 

Think of paint as the skin on your body and wax as the water that we drink. If you dont drink enough water our skin gets dehydrated from every thing that our skin is exposed to in our daily lives. The same goes for your paint it is exposed to the sun and other things on a daily basis and the wax replenishes the oils in the clear coat and base coat so they dont dry out and crack. I wouldnt think of spending the amount of money we spend for these trucks with out taking care of the paint.

Ever heard of clear coat failure? If you never wax your car and/or wash it with strong detergents (Dawn) regularly it will eventually be stripped of essential oils needed to keep the clear coat healthy.

Without wax or sealant to protect the clear (or single stage paint) it is left to dry out, oxidize, and eventually fail. A failed clearcoat can not be fixed by a detailer, and at that point you are facing sanding the entire clear off and re-spraying a new clear coat.

So, in short, look at wax as a great way to protect your investment AND make it look better at the same time.

 

Optimum Wax is an excellent spray way. Carnuba Moose Wax is also very good and it wont stain your trim. I have both on my truck right now and it looks great.

 

Another vote for Optimum Spray Wax. The new version is awesome.
