It's been suggested before to use 4" pads with a DA. Two benefits I know are the polish breaks down faster and you can get in areas otherwise not really possible with a 6.5" pad. I wish I had some 4" pads sometimes but I only have the 6.5" and I get by alright. I use LC CCS pads and am happy with them. A lot of people like the Megs pads. I think you'll be happy either way. Just get plenty of polishing pads since they're the workhorse pads and you'll use more of them than anything, especailly if you're experimenting with different polishes to find what works best on that particular vehicle since all paints can be different. RollingRock I believe uses the LC VC pads. I don't remember his reasons behind liking those more than the CCS pads. I think one is it's easier to center the pad on the backing plate. You could give Scott at Specialty Motoring a call. He carries the LC pads and the Poorboy's lineup. He's a real good guy as well. RR knows him. The only downside is I don't think he carries any machines. But I could be wrong. He informed me on another forum after I had placed an order that he had some stuff that wasn't on his website. He contacted me and offered to adjust my order and billed me the difference which was awesome. If you contact him, tell him what you're looking to do. He'll be more than happy to help you. Defintely don't skimp on the MF Towels though. You will use way more than you expect. It's just how it works. Scott's Fluffinator is a nice towel. He sent me one to try out with my order. My only gripe being it's a 16x16 and I like the 16x24 towels. A lot of people prefer the 16x16 though.
