how to adjust ignition timing 1994 4.9

how do you adjust the ignition timing on my 4.9 1994 f150? im getting an error saying spout circuit open and it runs like a 3 legged pig. anyone had this before?

the spout connector is a 2 wire conector near the dist. that looks like it has a "cap" on it. the cap is pretty much a jumper. if this circuit is open it will run on base timing. check that connector and the wiring to it first.

edit: the spout may also be by the drivers side hood hinge i cant remember...

thanks mate. ive sorted the timing and still ran rough.i noticed plug 2 was sooty and others were worn out so replaced plugs rotor cap and leads. cylinder 2 is not firing but has a spark. the plug is sooty but not wet so now starting to wonder if its the injector. i dont own a compression tester but she sounds ok on a polish test.

is injectors a common problem with these trucks?
