A guy who trucks cattle for me has a 24 ft Featherlite gooseneck trailer. He normally pulls it with a F250 Superduty but something happened with the injectors today so he had to borrow a friends truck. It was a 5.7L regular cab Tundra and he was pulling the 24 ft Featherlite trailer with about 6000 lbs of livestock on it. It obviously didn't pull as well as the Superduty and he had to load the trailer differently but I was still surprised how well it did. Anyone else have towing experience with a Tundra and how does it compare to the F150? I always thought a F150 would kick a Tundras *** in towing! I would not do it on a regular basis but I would like to be able to try towing a trailer like that on a F150 a couple times a year. Any big problems this could cause? I know that a Superduty would be the thing for the job but it would only be a couple times a year and if I got a Superduty I wouldn't use it to its potential any other time.

 

i pulled some crazy loads with my ranger when i had it too...doesnt mean anything. im surprized the frame didnt fold on that tundra pullin a goose neck. worst truck frame out there.

 

You can make anything tow something. Just doesnt mean you should do it alot or that your not stressing it alot. The Tundra was made to be fast. The F150 was made to work, tow and be on construction sites. The F150 will never be fazed by towing constantly.

 

If you have the 5.4 engine and towing package and brake controller and antisway/load leveling then your truck can pull 6k pounds no problem. I have pulled ~7500lbs on my truck over 10k miles in the last year alone.

Note, this is tag trailer setup though. 6k is likely too much weight for 5th wheel setup.

 

I work at One Arts Plaza in Dallas (new building) and there is construction all around our building. Lots of Ford's Chevy's and Dodges, not a single Tundra in the mix.

 

The only thing the Tundra has going for it is engine power. The 5.7 makes the Ford 5.4 look sick.

 

Still, the power isn't a fair comparison. You're looking at .3 liters more in displacement, DOHC, 4 valve heads, and 2 more gears to work with. Put all that to work in a mod motor, and it'd probably make 350/430.

 

When you do power comparisons, you can't use "what if" - you have to compare what you see. Like it or not, Toyota has a more powerful 1/2 ton truck than Ford at this time with both having the top factory options.

 

it may have a more powerful engine, lets just have time tell how the motor holds up and the rest of the truck.

 

Lets see the Tundra do that on a regular basis. The F-150 is a true truck made to work, the Tundra is just a Ridgeline on steroids
