The information is availible in your owners manual as well as many places here. Leave OD on unless you notice the trans shifting or unlocking the torque convertor frequently. There is not rule that says towing over xxxx pounds leave it off. Every towing experience is differrent. Someone towing 7000 pounds with it on is not the same as another person towing 2000 pounds. Speed, gearing, tire sizes (affects gearing), road terrain all affect how the truck will perform.

As to why powerstroke wrote that, I understand as I read these forums daily. For someone like you who may not see the same questions asked 5 billions times, we recommend using the search within the towing forum for this type of question. If a question has already been answered you find out quicker that waiting for someone to reply.
