the ball joint is in that round rubber piece at the top of the control arm. you are not removing this though. you are basically pushing the bolt that is attached to the ball joint, up through the hole in the top of the spindle. if you attach the puller exactly as pictured, and crank on the threded rod with the ratchet, it pushes the ball joint bolt through the hole. just remember to keep that nut on there to stop the arm from flying up and the spindle from dropping all at once...there is a lot of force there.
