Who here has been running 5W-20 MotorCraft Syn-Blend Exclusively in their motor since new? 4.6 or 5.4! I ask because I have been noticing that the Mobil-1 Oil that I have been using since the 1st change at 3K., has been getting more & more pricey since I've owned my truck! I used to get a 5Qt Jug at Wall Mart for $19.98, then it rose to $21.98, now it is $23.98! All the while, other oils such as MotorCraft's, pricing has remained the same! I plan on boycotting Mobil's products including gas! I believe that they are the most Greedy Corporation on this planet! I would like to switch to the Factory Fill MotorCraft if people have had good luck with it!..................

So because the price of crude oil has gone through the roof lately...not to mention how much it's gone up in the past two years alone...all these companies should just take it in the shorts instead of passing it along to the consumer?? I guess you're going to boycot milk also, and everything else in your life that's gone up due to higher shipping cost...due to higher oil prices...How on earth will you survive if you boycot everything that's gone up lately for no other reason that oil prices??

OK, that was a little rough, I apologize. My dad ran MC blend in his last truck exclusively with no ill effects what so ever. Since you're bitching about prices, why not consider running a higher quality full synthetic oil and stretch out your change intervals. That's where true, drastic money savings are at with no detriment to your motor at all. My dad, and I, and many others run Amsoil for 10,000+ miles on a change.

 

The frequency of your oil changes is more important than the type of oil you use. My truck went its first 262k on the cheapest off brand dino oil money could buy. It now has 292k on it and going strong on the original motor and trans.

 

What interval are you changing your oil at?
Use the mobil 1 and go 7500 changing the filter and topping off at around 3500.

Another point to mention is your downgrading. Your going to a synth/dino blend, better off looking for a better synthetic and going longer between changes as mentioned

 

I have 67,000-something on Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend. Doesn't smoke, doesn't leak a drop, and I use about a half a quart between services. I do mine every 3000 miles.

 

I run Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic in my '03 5.4 with no problems or complaints

 

Sounds good to me! My next change is comming up & I'll be switching to the MotorCraft 5w-20! I am still in factory warranty at 17,800mi so I'll change within 3-4K intervals, + I have a Ford ESP 7yr-100K so extended intervals are not in my future to stay in warranty specs for you Amscam Guru's..........I look at it this way.......My work vehicle is a Ford CVPI 4.6, it runs 3K or 400 Hours between services religously! At 100K we trade for a new one,engines run fine at trade time! I have only had 1 motor go Kapluueee in 20 Yrs & that was because I started up a motor that was sitting all night in 10 degree temps, & I had her up to 100MPH in seconds for a colleague calling for assistance at approx 3 miles away, with dino oil. When I exited the car it I smelled metal burning! Approx. a week later the 4.6 went POW! I think that I planted the seed for that motors demise on that cold to full power start & sustained run!....................

 

I used it in my '01 for 94000 miles before I traded it in with no problems what so ever. What I want to know is why is the price of SYNTHETIC lube going up because oil is more expensive.

 

I think it is because of Mobil's Greed...........At the Wallmart I frequent, Mobil's oil is the only one I've noticed who's price has risen!.........From now on they don't see even a dime from my pocket!.............I've switched exclusively to Shell Gas also!..........

Best buy in motor oil on the market.
Don't need full syn.

67,000 on Motorcraft 5-20, just barely moves on the stick between changes at 3800 to 4000 miles.

 

Amscam.... ...tooooooo funny!! That's original...make that one up yourself?? Also, extended intervals, what kind of oil you use, and so on has absolutely zilch to do with your warranty, but you seem pretty set in your (mis)understanding of things. Good luck with the new oil...it is good and will serve you well.

 

Absolutely TRUE Amsoil story -

I got a case of Amsoil crankcase oil as a gift from a buddy who works at a third party supplier.

Engine had 185,000 miles at the time. After about 1000 miles on that Amsoil I had so much sludge under the valve covers - it freaked me out at the time.

I drained the oil and decided to just use the rest of the Amsoil up that I had. Again I got that sludge , but not as much.

So I went back to using what I was -Castrol 50/50 Syn blend and didn't get any sludge.

This is what happened - Norm was the one that explained this and I believe that is what happened -

The Amsoil cleaned my internals so well, the sludge was a side effect to that. Yea , it was cold and I frequently made short trips, but the engine never had anything like this happen when running Castrol - I keep a pretty good eye on things. I want this truck to last me.

Hands down that Amsoil IS good sh^t - To expensive for me to run in the crankcase. I like to change the oil every 3k and won't have it any other way. However, I do run Amsoil in my E4OD (trans)/ Gears/ T-case/Power steering and now having 238,000 on the truck; she runs smooth, shifts perfectly (stock trans).

At one time it wasn't this smooth at higher speeds. It is now and has been for along time since changing the drive train lubrication over Amsoil products.
