What could be causing this?

I know it's the trans. because it only happens when I shift into gear.

Even while at a complete stop In gear, I can hear it, while stopped (in gear) it's not to loud, but as I take off from a stop and accelerate, the faster I go the louder it gets.

I just had my trans. fluid changed because of this. I thought that would be the cure, but nothing! It's still there.

My truck also hesitates at full throttle shifting from first to second, In case that helps.

Could it be my Transfer case?





I actually had a guy stop me the other day and ask me if my truck was Supercharged.......I told him yes.

 

have you tried revving the throttle while in park/neutral? it could be a pulley that is quiet at low RPMs

 

I can't see where the transfer case could cause a hesitation. I've got bad feelings about what you have described if you have eliminated the obvious, low power steering fluid, belt etc. It sounds more like Toque converter going south. Or the transmission. Any codes? Could be a simple electronic problem. Sorry, not much help here. I'll check my dvd manual for the 05 and see if i can find any useful info that may help you out. If so I'll chime back in.

 

No codes at all, can you do me that favor of checking out the manual, because I'm about 1000 miles from running out of warranty.

 

Yes I have, nothing. It only happens when I shift into gear.

 

How about the gears, I know the 4.10s in my stang started to whine after about 6months from the install. 'Bout the same timeframe as you. Took it back and got it fixed. Loud high pitch whine.

 

I had the rear end checked out, and that wasn't the problem.

I'm more than sure it's the trans. I just had the fluid replaced to try and fix the problem, but it didn't even phase it, still loud as hell.

The trans. doensn't shift wrong or hard, So who knows.

 

Sounds like it's the input side of the transmission if it does it in gear but stopped. In that state, the engine is turning the input shaft and torque converter but the output side is not turning at all. Maybe a bad torque converter?

 

Maybe a bad bearing on the input shaft? I am no mechanic and don't pretend to be. just trying to help out.

 

Well fortunately you still have warranty left. Why not just take it into the dealer and see what they can find?

 

Might have trouble getting them to cover anything on a 10" lifted truck on 38/15.5s having drivetrain issues.

By all means, If you still have warranty, take it in. They should have all the tools/test equipment to properly diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, the manual lacks much when it comes to noise in trans. Here is something I found.

Nice post wrench007! That covers it all. I see that they also note in there to check for modifications. I agree with the others who said that you should take it in and let them decide if it's something that was caused by your modifications. What's the worst that can happen? They refuse to fix it under warranty? Then you are right back to where you are now, and you will know what the problem is. In order for them to refuse to fix it, they have to find out what it is and prove that a modification caused the problem. It shouldn't cost you more than the labor to find the problem.

 

I tried to copy and paste twice with no luck form the manual for noise in trans. But it's vague and not much help without tools/equipment. But, like bamorris said take it to the dealer if you still have warranty for sure.
