average price for transmission fluid change?

what sort of prices should i expect to see for changing my transmission fluid...im due for it...do they change the filter as well? I was quoted 119.99 by the local car wash/oil change place who does my oil changes for me... i held off because i wasnt sure if this was a fair price or not...and they said it was a flush...isnt that harmful to the tranny? im at 80k miles and I dont want to tear anything up right now since I have to give Ford $1000 in three weeks to replace my exhaust manifold gasket thats leaking on my passenger side

For $120 the oil change joint is simply going to hook up their machine and replace the fluid, I doubt if a pan drop and filter change is included in that price. Make sure they use Mercon V spec fluid, not all bulk fluid in 55 gallon drums meets spec.

That's a fair price, and no, a flush IS NOT harmful to the transmission.

My Ford dealership charges $160.00 for a flush (no filter change or pan drop) with there oil. I bought my on oil Mobil 1 ATF Mercon V compatible $5.67 a quart at Wal Mart 16 quarts and the dealership charge $75.00 labor and $38.50 for two bottles of this cleaning fluid they ran through the system before they added the Mobil 1.

Don't let a car wash do anything more than wash your car.

The fluid was called a flush kit and it was made by BG and it was two different cans. This is the same stuff they use at this dealership for all of there tranny flushes the only difference is I used Mobil 1 ATF mercon V instead of the MC ATF mercon V. I would hope I would be okay.

I would hope so, too, but I wouldn't count on it. I would never run something like that through my transmission.

BG makes an excellent intake system cleaner and fuel injector cleaner, but I would NEVER run any kind of "cleaning fluid" through my transmission unless it's in preparation for a rebuild. The dealership is using it to maximize profits.

My exhaust manifold has leaked a little bit ever since I bought the truck a year ago. I see no reason to worry about it or pay the dealer $1000 to fix it. I was told by a local mechanic it was a common problem on F150's and that it will just start leaking again soon anyway and not to waste the money on it.

fifty, where did you find those prices at? b/c i spoke to every one of those dealers today and they all wanted around 169.99 for either a flush or a service...

grnxnham, i dunno if mine is leaking worse than yours or what, but its making the most God awful racket you have every heard...sounds like a harley idling away on my passenger side and then everytime i pass a wall or any sort of sound barrier on my passenger side you can hear that exhaust leak BAD...it sounds almost like a miss its so loud...i cant deal with it, makes me feel like im driving a terribly taken care of P.O.S... i will gladly pay their fees to make it drive/sound like a well running truck again
