Jeepers guys, we're starting to throw rocks at each other again, which I think is a little counterproductive.

I am one of a group of Lightning owners that are trying to establish base line as well as modified dyno verified results for real time/real life horsepower and torque ratings. This is an ad hoc group, with no real organization, just guys trying to figure out what we have in a real life environment.

In my case, today, I dyno'd my 99.5 in much less than ideal temperature conditions and came up with 304.7 horsepower at the rear wheels totally stock and 328.9 horsepower with a Superchip flip chip with no learning time, back to back.

As I am no longer an avid drag racer, I may never take the truck to the track, but this gives me a good look at what my particular vehicle delivers as opposed to what is advertised. I believe a stock Lightning should deliver 288 horsepower on a dyno based on the advertised flywheel horsepower less approx 20% for friction (automatic trans, diff and so on).

I can then factor in the weight of the truck, axle ratio and so on to develop a performance profile based on ideal conditions. That leaves out driver skill and so on.

Without trying to start yet another argument, the postings I have seen on several make boards "seem" to indicate that Ford is in many cases very conservative in horsepower ratings they post in their literature versus the actual dyno readings. Certainly the case with my Lightning.

I don't want to belabor the point, but in a real world situation, my stock Lightning darn near lost a race to a mildly modified Jeep Grand Cherokee with the big V-8 simply because I was asleep at the start. I was a loser up to about 40-50 mph until I really pulled the plug.

As such, I am sure a good Chevrolet driver could beat a so-so Ford driver all day long with a reasonably comparable motor/trans/chassis combination. And, the other way around.

PS: I also own three Chevs and two other Ford trucks, so I have no prejudice at all!
