The Chevy's numbers may indeed be up for 2000, but it means nothing. Think about it, if either Ford or GM could produce a better engine (similar size) than the other guy, don't you think they would?
Truck trends article comparing Ford, Chevy and Dodge illustrates this perfectly.
The 5.4 is the eqaul of the 5.3 and the 4.8 is equal to the 4.6 (Dodge does have to get it's act together however).
No one manufacturer has some secret formula to turn out a better motor than the competition and there have been little break thru technological advances since internal comb. engines hit the market.
That all said, the Ford is by a long shot the best truck out there. GM has always had good powerplants packed into the most poorly built cars/trucks money can buy.
