Recommended Transfer Case/Differential Interval Change
2004 F-150 5.4L 4x4 SC
i have tired in vain to find this out to no avail. the local mr. lube "recommended" 48000(km) for the front diff, and 96000(km) for the rear diff, and i forget what they recommended for the transfer case. the ford "Scheduled Maintence Guide" just tellls me the "recommended" type of fluid to be used.
Does anybody know what the recommended interval changes are in the front and rear diff and the transfer case?
its a bit off topic but does anybody know if its possible to get a selectable locker/LS differerential for the rear and FRONT?
thx

"its a bit off topic but does anybody know if its possible to get a selectable locker/LS differerential for the rear and FRONT?

Front:
LS- Auburn, Trutrac, maybe eaton posi, ford traclok
Selectable locker- Eaton Elocker, Auburn ECTED, ARB airlocker
Auto Locker- Detroit Locker
9.75 Rear:
LS-Auburn, Trutrac, Traclok, eaton posi
Selectable Locker- N/A
Auto Locker- Detroit Locker
8.8 Rear:
LS- Auburn, Trutrac, Traclok, eaton posi
Selectable Locker- Eaton Elocker, Auburn ECTED, OX, maybe ARB
Auto Locker- Detroit Locker
That should be accurate. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not including Ezlockers or any of those insert units.
Ive got an ECTED getting installed up front next week
thx"

A word to the wise on the transfer case fluid. I just had mine changed at 31k miles and it looked a little rough. The fluid was definitely brownish and dirty. Now I am the most **** person on here about my truck....it is waaay over maintained! The truck probably has a total of 50 miles in four wheel drive. I was surprised for sure about the condition of the fluid. The book says use Mercon in it but that has been replaced with Mercon V now according to Ford. Think I will do it every 30k along with the tranny fluid from now on.

i heard rumours about the rear diff @ 96000(km) and the front diff and transfer case @ 48000(km), apparently the front needs it more often due to the fact that it doesnt get used as much.
so if youve only put 50 miles on the transfer case the fluid just sat and settled for its entire life(almost)
