I think I have a cv joint going away in my '99, so I went to a local dealer get a quote for a new front axle. They gave me this number, which is lower in price than everything I have seen online. I just wanted to check and make sure that they are giving me the right part. Perhaps this doesn't include the joints or something?

You can probably find a reman axle assembly in the 65 buck range.

 

Well, from what I understand, there are more ***** in the joints of the Ford parts. I have read here that people have had some issues with binding with other manufacturers. I'd like to just do it once, if I'm gonna have to do it.

 

If that were a correct Ford part number, Google should show something but it doesn't. You may want to check that. Rock Auto shows the following for a 99 complete assembly:

Part number 2L3Z 220-AB is just the short stub axle on the left side. The outer axle assy bolts to this. The dealer didn't look up the correct axle part for you.
