I am in need of some advice here.

I have almost 58k miles on my truck. It is an 06' model Scab 4x4 5.4L 3v.
I have vibrations around 45mph to 55mph. It is only there when I attempt to keep the throttle steady to keep my speed. I almost think it is the TC acting up. The vibrating goes away after I get above 60mph.

But before you jump to conclusions, I have done a Tranny flush with BG cleaner from a Toyota Dealership. They are authorized Ford repair center. After the flush, I barely noticed any change. The mechanic that changed the fluid went with me on a trip before I did this flush and he claims my tires are the root of my problems. Something about cutting or chomping around the tread near the sidewalls.

I hear conflicting stories here as it is a 'low-grade misfire' to your TC is causing the shudder. I cannot pinpoint where this is coming from but it feels like the tranny to me. The shudder is very quick almost like a missing cylinder.

I am pondering buying some Ludegard additive to put in my transmission to see if that will help. Otherwise I am going to have to start saving up for a plug and COPS change which is going to be damned expensive.

I have a scan tool that does data logging for the truck. It is not detecting any misfires nor has any codes been thrown. I even tried relearning the strategy with a battery reset and no codes where thrown. I have great power still and can power brake with ease. Fuel filter was changed about 4k miles ago. The tires were rotated and balanced 600 miles ago.

This is a completely stock truck.

Did you do a complete flush or just 6 quarts?

Did you replace with Mercon V?

Did you do a flush at 30K?

Do you tow? a lot?

My 97 F150 has the shutter when I try to
hold the same speed when the trans is
up shifting (82K)

Took it to FRAUD and they did a trans maintenance
for $129 6 quarts, plus screen filter Valvoline maxlife.

I wanted a flush but got a screw.

However, I do notice now that the trans shifts
as if the fluid seems thicker. The shift holds
a little longer before the next geer. And not
seeing the shutter yet. Could it be that
even with half a fluid change it has improved????

 

The flush I received was TC and all the fluid.
It should have Mercron V in it as I requested it.

I do not know if service was done at 30k as I purchased it used.

No towing.

I am going to have to weight in my options here.

 

Well I ordered some Lubegard Dr. Transmission Fix for $10 bucks shipped.

 

My local Ford dealership flushes the transmission with something called a MOC Machine. My transmission takes 13.9 quarts, but the machine requires 16 quarts to operate.

hey i had that same problem and it ended up being a dent in my drive shaft. it was driving me nuts and finally someone told me to check it over and it sure was it. i got it balanced and it works good as new

 

I received my tube of this stuff today. Only 2oz, but I put it in. Immediately within 2 miles of driving, I saw a significant drop in vibration. So I am guessing it was an issue with my transmission.

I need to put more miles on my truck to allow the fluid to fully flow through the transmission. But it was quite nice being able to drive at 55mph again without shaking/vibrating. There is still a little there, but it may need some more time to work.

I also added more air to each tire. I was sitting on 30#'s with each tire. All of them were low after taking it in for a tire rotation and balance.

 

Same problem here. Between 40 and 50, if I just maintain speed, I get a shudder. If I back off on the pedal or accelerate, it's fine.

What's the final verdict on this? Tranny additive?

Looks like it, BUT it could also be a low grade misfire.

 

Hey guys, I just wanted to follow up on this as the problem is fixed for me and maybe this will help someone else (that's what the forums are for).

As to all of you fellas in this thread (and others) that suggested that it could be a misfire, thanks, you were right. It's hard to believe that an engine misfire could have such a pronounced effect on the whole drivetrain, but it did.

I had the transmission flushed, but that didn't fix it. Upon suggestions on this forum, I decided to change plugs and coils. I called my local auto parts store to confirm that they had everything in stock; they did. Before going there, I popped the hood to do a little recon and see if I could figure out what needed to be done to swap these things out. I couldn't even *find* the dang plugs.

I decided to leave it to the local trusted mechanic. $1283.27 later, my truck no longer shudders. He said that the intake manifold gasket was busted and coolant was leaking onto the coils. Two of them were known bad and he said two others had water on them and he swapped them anyway since he was in there. There was $7XX.00 in labor there so I'm second guessing as to whether I could've done this job myself. At any rate, I had no idea how bad the engine was running until now. It's a subtle, but noticable diffference in smoothness. No shudder to speak of.

Yea, that's a low grade misfire's favorite load position during the drive-cycle to act up. Right @ 45mph after the shift into OD.

Another problem that can seem like a transmission fault is when the Friction Modifier in the rear end breaks down. The truck will also vibrate at those speeds.

BTW - Lubguard is some real good stuff - I use it..

 

HI, Hello Everyone. New member here. I just bought a used 2003 King Ranch Super Crew with 130.000 Miles and when I drive at 43 to 45 mph it sound like air plane turbine after 45 the sound is gone why? is the trans.? do i need change the oil?/ or is something else please what is lubguard what is the best trans. oil??

 

Had a strange vibration that I took to be the transmission. Steadily got worse until finally the service engine light illuminated and I was able to read the code. Bad DPFE valve. Had the faulty valve replaced and the EGR system cleaned out (it was plugged) and now the truck runs great.

It took several weeks (months) of running poorly for the truck to finally throw a code making it easier to pinpoint the problem.

I realized it wasn't the transmission when the drive ability issues became severe and when it still acted up while power braking.

Fresh fluid and Lubegard will fix the usual torque converter shudder. If you've done that and still have a problem its time to look elsewhere.

 

I still have the shudder. But no longer at 45mph. It is at 55mph now. ARggggg !!!

I cleaned the TB blade. But is was clear. I wiped out carbon everyone else around it. I did a Seafoam treatment in the PCV port.

I know it is bad jbrew and MGDfan. But I only use it under extreme circumstances. Not much carbon buildup evidently in the system. So I am having to look elsewhere. When warm weather comes, I am pulling the TB and cleaning the EGR port and everything. I am completely stumped on this.
