Well this is great I sold my truck and it started shuddering the other day and then I drove it and on the highway going 60 it slips out of gear and the rpms shot up to 4000 i let of the gas and it engaged..... then did it again and the truck stalled.......... It only stalled one time but it did come out of gear again. What do you think>? they are coming in a few days to pick the truck up its in the ford dealer shop righ tnow.. What do you think is the problem?? HELP!!!

 

Sounds like it may be a torque converter clutch problem.

I wonder if it is too late to have the trans fluid flushed
and Mercon V or Valvoline maxlife added?

It is a $100+ rool of the dise.

How about adding "shutter stop".

 

If you plan on keeping the truck you are money ahead having the transmission checked out. Personally I think additives like "shudder stop" are for covering up the early symptoms of component failures in transmissions in vehicles that are being sold, that way when people test drive it everything seems fine. Sort of like dumping 2 cans of stp in the engine of a vehicle to be sold to cover up valve train clatter or a slight knock in the engine.

 

Not to mention you might find yourself in court.

I know of someone who did that and almost went to jail because he sold his Izuzu Trooper with a problem with the injectors, and he filled the tank up with like 93, and like 5 bottles of STP Complete Fuel System Treatment for Large Vehicles, and it ran great. Well, he sold it to guy (I guess he was a mechanic) and like two days later the guy who he had just sold it to, came knocking on his door saying his engine just took a dump and hydrolocked. He also noted that he could smell the fuel additives in the gas when he took the engine apart to try to fix it. He told him to either refund him, or at least pay for the parts with no labor. His friend said no. Well, a week later, he found himself in small claims court. They slammed the hammer down on that he would pay for the parts AND labor for the rebuild of the engine. Guess what? The guy, who is a mechanic, took it over to his shop. He rebuilt the engine, and it cost the guy who bought it from, what he paid for the Trooper. So not only did the guy who got the Trooper, got it for free, but it also had a brand new engine in it. Talk about turning the tables.

I think the motive for the judge making that decision was because he knew he was wrong in what he did by hoodwinking someone.

Sometimes, you never know when you are talking to an auto mechanic or when you are talking to someone who only knows how to fill their auto up with gas.

 

Well they just called and it was a torque converter and also no. 5 coil no working right... I am having a new tranny installed I guess they cant fix a torque converter? said it was going to be about 2500 to 2700 parts and labor UGH!!!!!!!!!!! So I guess when the tc goes out you just throw an new transmission in?? Crap

 

It is a lot easier for the shop to swap out the whole tranny, plus in the long run you will save money by having a basically new tranny and should not have to worry about another internal part of the tranny going south on you and costing another $1000 to replace one part. Just make sure they are actually rebuilding the tranny not just swapping out the parts that have failed.

 

There must be more to that story generally before you pay for a use vehicle you get the car inspected by a mechanic at your cost, then if it looks good you pay and get the title. If you buy a used vehicle once the title is signed over to you or you recieve a bill of sale any problems with the vehicle are not the seller problem unless there is some sort of written agreement. Not that it makes the sellers actions right, but the mechanic that bought the truck is at fault for not asking to inspect the truck before buying it.
