I've seen many beds with Line-X and Rhino applications, and they remove the Torx bolts for the bed and remove the tailgate panel bolts. It looks good, and lets you still access the bolts.

Would there be any problem however in Line-Xing everything in the bed (bolts and tie downs), with the exception of the tailgate panel? I don't think I'll ever need to remove my bed, and it just makes sense to me to coat everything. And I can get it done that way (Line-X) for about $350.

 

That might be a bad idea, what if the fuel pump goes out? Its a lot easer to pull the bed than to drop the fuel tank.

 

The LINE-X dealer can spray over everything if you wish, it's your choice. But it's recommended that the bolts remain unsprayed.

The only problem with spraying the tie downs is that if you leave them in there, it's hard to spray them at all angles in order to get good coverage with the bedliner product.

Nine years and counting without ability to remove the bed.
Sometimes I can't sleep at night for thinking about it.

 

I bought my truck used with the Rhino lining already in it. All the torx bolts where already sprayed over. I needed to remove my bed to add a body lift. So, a razor around the bolts themselves and some peeling, easy as pie. it literally took my 10 minutes to cut off the Rhino lining covering the bed bolts and expose them... Super easy job.

So Ryan, have them Line-X or Rhino line everything. If you ever need to pull the bed for whatever reason (Body Lift, access a Fuel Pump, etc...) it is not an issue. I've installed 2 Body Lifts and both sets of Torx bolts were covered on each. Had no issues exposing the bolts with a Razor. You can always have just the bolts resprayed if you'd like...

 

Actually wouldn't even need to remove the spray from the bolt. Just cut around the bolt head and a small circle to expose and clean out the female torx and leave the bolt sprayed.

 

You won't be able to cut LINE-X as easily as Rhino. If you need to "cut" LINE-X, use either a hole saw on a drill or use a drill bit like a knife. Or, use a Dremel.

Unrelated interesting story: My son and one of his pals had to do a science project for school. So, they tested a sample of Rhino and LINE-X. None of the results surprised me except for one. One of the tests was to light the samples on fire. OMG, Rhino burns FAST and created a huge flame! It took LINE-X two to three times as long to ignite and did not produce a large flame. Ya learn something everyday!

 

I think you would be making a mistake by going over the bed mount bolts.

Like TruckGasm said, removing Line-X would not be that easy. I'm not sure about Rhino. A shop had to remove part of my Line-X, recently, to cut my bed floor and it was no easy chore.

Originally, I had my bed bolts, tie hooks and screws chrome plated. Just recently, I had them re-plated in black chrome.

 

All good points, thanks everyone. The only reason I would spray over the bolts is because my sister's boyfriend has a guy he uses who has already Line-Xed several of his trucks, and he said he could get me the good discount (somewhere between $350 and $400 which I believe is alot less than normal, don't they sometimes run 6-700?). I can see not wanting to do the tiedowns as they would be tough to fully coat, and also it would make it more difficult when pulling rope through. The tailgate bolts would not be sprayed, just the bed bolts, and if it means saving a few hundred, I would have no problem with going in with a dremel or hole saw after the fact and cleaning off the bolts...

When it is done taking off the bed bolts and nothing is holding the bed down, has anyone had issues (or the person applicating the product for that matter) with bolting the bed back down, or lining up the holes, or finding the holes filled with Line-X?

I would think that the price range for Line-X is somewhere around $350-400; not more than that.

I paid $350 when I had mine done.

 

When I had mine done there were able to remove the tailgate torx but not the tie downs or the bed bolts. They were so rusted the guy broke 2 bits trying to get them out. I said just spray em.

 

cut it with a razor blade around the washer and head of bolt, then it should peel up since the bolt probably has a crappy bond. mine worked fine
