I always support the lower a-frame on any vehicle with the jack when breaking the top balljoint loss so there is no jumping around or sudden impacts. I also leave the nut partially threaded on just incase...
Is there any chance of pulling the axle out of the diff during the process? Forgot to remove the axle bolt on the kids van when I did the balljoints and pulled the axle out. GRRRR
