My Owner' s Guide says "Use only Ford G05 Engine Coolant or a

premium coolant that meets Ford spec.WSS-M97B51-A1 . But later

on the "Capacities and specifications page it shows

ESE-M97B44-A as the required coolant. I wonder what the

difference is and which one the dealer would want to sell me?

BTW, a friend told me that adding potassium or sodium nitrite

to the coolant will increase or restore the coolant's ability to

prevent rust/corrosion. It is sold in auto supply stores. I

suppose Ford would reject this action.

 

Using the Peak antifreeze will be fine but don't add anything to it. If you let the ford dealer do the work they will use the right stuff. If something goes wrong then dealer covers it.

 

Yea I would go to the dealer or any other shop like a Valvoline instant oil change or something similar. That way if something goes wrong it is their fault and not your own. I am needing to get mine done before winter hits and will probably just take it over to the local valvoline. The dealer takes too long.

 

Over the years, I've driven several vehicles into the ground. Not one of those cars stopped running because of bad coolant. Water pumps, thermostats, hoses, and even radiator tanks go out eventually. There isn't one coolant that will prevent any of those things from failure due to wear & tear, or age. Rubber hoses will deteriorate and crack. No radiator could last forever with the right coolant, and there isn't a right coolant that will make your radiator last forever.

When in doubt, buy the most expensive thing that you can and hope that you did something good. After all, what is the price difference between a top shelf coolant and a bargain basement coolant? If you're still unsure, then slip some of it into your girlfriend's Gatorade when she's being a bitch.

ive always gone with prestone. few dollars more but...maybye just peace of mind on my part.

 

Whatever brand you use, make sure it's green and mix 50/50. While you're at it, change the stat and gasket (rubber O ring) that is on top of the stat. If you're hoses are crappy, change them too. Just alot of stuff to consider in preventative, figure do it now when everything is drained. In newer models, they use orange color coolant and I guess the 2 can't mix, just use 50% water and 50% green and you're all set.

Never use "long-life" or ready-mix coolant.
