89 f150 tranny problems

I recently bought truck a month ago and now does not want to move when put in to drive. If let off brake it will creep but will start to move when rpms are raised. when the truck shifts into 2nd then everything is fine.
I tried chaning the fluid and filter and added lucas. Lucas helped a little bit. Any suggestions?
89 f150 aod 5.0 engine.

this truck originaly had a manual in it the door code is m
is there a way to find out what tranny was in it originaly.
May swap back to manual.

Thank you
G King

Door code M would be a Mazda M5OD.

Yup, origionally cam with an M5OD-R2, and you say it's an AOD now? 14 pan bolts?

Important thing would be to have the TV adjusted or even installed correctly.

re

not knowing its vin i cant tell you the exact trans that was in it, but it originally being a manual, the 89 like mine had one of two trans in them, manual that is. One of which is the ZF, it is the biggest piece of crap out there, and the other is the mazda/toyo 5spd, its good but rare

Man, I hope I don't sound completely dumb but, didn't the later (like 2000) Rangers have the Mazda 5 speed transmission? I was told (by the parts man) that I could replace the 4 cyl with a V8 using factory mounts and the like. He said the transmission was very capable of standing the power, just the axles would need replacing.

Could that tranny be a replacement for Bad is looking for?

You've got that 100% backward. Smallblock ZFs are rare & VERY desirable because of how rugged they are. Mazda M5ODs grow on trees and are great boat anchors.

Holy misinformation! Can't get trans info from the VIN. His door code sticker has M for the tranny code which is for the Mazda (nothin to do with toyota) M5OD-R2. Like I had mentioned in a different post, the light duty M5OD-R2 is a good tranny, but for big towing or big power you want the heavy duty non hunk of crap ZF in any version. I suggest you take a reading of the tranny info page I put together to become more familiar with the ford truck trannys and their applications

Since '88 to current, the Ranger/B-series, Explorer/Navajo, Escape, and Aerostar use/d the Mazda M5OD-R1. Whole different animal than the fullsize trucks Mazda M5OD-R2.
