Question steering wheel control interchange Lariat to XLT

I want to interchange the steering wheel control from the lariat to the XLT, as you know the lariat has the cruise control, radio and the Temp. Control The Xlt only has cruise control. Has anyone done this interchange, is there any modification inthe wiring? i know that the temp. control wont work in my xlt 'cause it is manual... But since im doing some modification in my xlt,
like the Cluster from a FX4, Lariat Chrome running boards, Fx2 Wheels (not install just yet), and more to come soon. steering wheel control for my stock stereo, well for this one im gonna need some help. Thanks

First make sure your factory radio has the ablility to be used by the SWC system. I dont know if all radios had the ability to do so.

I documented the entire swap including the SWIX unit to control my kenwood headunit. You will only need to worry about the control part and running the wire to the radio harness.

I just read what you did, thats very good. Now my question is how do you do the conection of the wire into the radio harness, also in the conector at the steering wheel? do you just insert it in or you need to use a pin? what kind of wire was it, you know, size?
I want to try this in the stereo that i have right now and if it doesnt work, i'll get one that does, i like this type of projects especially in my truck, so i wanna try what you did. Thanks Fabian06

Your only going to be tapping into the SWC wire end at the clockspring, not both the SWC and the Hvac spots so i would highly consider pining the wire in. I cant remember what size the wire was nor what type of pin it needed. You may want to see what type they need and check out radio shack for the pins since i have heard Ford has to special order alot of stuff like that and are kinda pricey. Since i had tapped into both wire spots i simply slid the wire in and did a U to the other wire spot on the harness. That kept it firmly in place and i didnt have to pin it. At the radio i wired it directly to the SWIX unit so i didnt pin it there either.

Good luck
If you have any questions you can PM me or Email me. I have helped a few others here do the SWC and the Swix units.

Hey Fabian06 i follow your instructions and i got it, and its working perfect
i can do the volume, with the seek botton i can go thru the mem presets, even thru the channels FM1, FM2, AM. If anyone wants to install a oem HU
steering control i recomend Fabian06 instructions, i dont know much about
electronics nor wiring and this intructions help a lot.
Thanks Fabian06. Let me know what other mods you've done, 'cause i still want to work on more mods for mine.

You can use a 18ga or 20ga with female pins that can fit into the pinhole
of the connector. Make sure is the pinhole 18 you push it all the way in so when you connect it to the HU they make perfect contact. Good luck.

You connect it to the large connector that plugs to stock HU, this connector
has some empty pinholes locate #18 make sure the wire is well inserted, it needs to make good contact to the HU. For the connector diagram see Fabian06SC he has some pics

Thanks bud, i enjoy documenting things so others can benifit when they do changes like mine.
Im glad it helped you out. Now you have the buttons and if you ever do an aftermarket HU you have the ability to prog the temp and fan buttons too.

As far as other mods, i have done quite a few. some sublte some not so subtle.
I added a monitor into the xlt factory overhead console that looks like its Original Equipment. Overhead Thread
I have also done a few wiring mods to make my truck function like i want it.
For example my fogs are on all the time when my headlights are on, either high or low, and i dont have a switch since my xlt came with no fogs originally. Its all done automatically with relays.
I also have my radar detector fused and hard wired so that it comes on when the truck turns on. i absolutley hate those pigtail cords all over the dash.
they are just a few details that make the truck appear cleaner and make my life easier.
When i get some free time im going to add the power lock to the tailgate so that it can lock and unlock in sync with my doors by my factory remote/door keyless pad.
I also have a third brakelight mod i have been planning and considering but that one is staying a secret till its done and i can post pics.
I just made arrangements with another memeber here for a few important interior peices that will go into another project. One is going to be a phone holder/integrated charger in the factory "coin slot" (the 4x4 electric switch for you 4x4 owners)
