After searching the "classifieds" I found a 6 cd/mp3 that will fit my truck. What is the preferred way to pay for it? Send the money then get the head unit or get the head unit then pay. Any special tips so I don't get taken for a ride. Thanks, Troy

 

I've seen the classifieds work, I've seen them not work. . Its a chance, IMO.

. . about the paying. When you order something online, phone, you pay for it first and than receive the item. Who says you wouldn't screw the guy over and not pay for it after he sent it? PayPal is usually the best way to do things like this.

I bought an 07 Head Unit in the classifieds and paid with paypal. Everything went smooth for me. Only problem is my ipod interface sounded distorted with the new 07 HU. So, I put my old 06 HU back in. I was really bummed because the CD player in the 07 HU sounded so much better than the 06 HU. But, I'm not willing to give up my ipod. Now I'm selling the 07 HU on ebay for what I bought it for.

Bought headlights through the classifieds - smoothest transaction ever. Personally, I would just take a look at who's selling the item & their post count. If they've got a couple hundred posts at least, chances are they don't want to ruin their reputation on the site - so they wouldn't risk screwing you over.

 

I have had succesful buys and sells on the classified. Some with Paypal, others with money orders and personal checks. It mostly depends on what the other party wants to do.

 

I have bought and sold a few things here and have had no problem, Paypal as others have stated seems to be the easiest and safest way to go, your credit card company will protect you if you use Paypal and something comes wrong or not at all.

BTW I am listing some chrome 20's with tires soon so keep your eyes open if interested, cheap plug!

 

I got burned on the classifieds.

NEVER pay with Paypal w/o using your credit card.
I disputed the transaction and got my money back.

I don't know if Paypal was able to get their $ from the seller but I don't care. They have the monopoly for 'virtual' transactions and can soak those costs up.

 

I bought a Borla exhuast from the classifieds. However, my transaction was from a guy who happened to be local to me so we got to meet in person. If you buy over the internet definitely use Paypal and just like was said previously, always use your credit card for the transaction and not your bank account. I use my AMEX on Paypal all the time. AMEX handles any issues without much headache. Good luck!

all my transactions went through well, just tell them to setup a private ebay auction...if they give you some bull**** response like "ebays auction prices are expensive"...don't deal with them. They have something to hide.

 

I have bought on several different boards without any trouble most people are honest, just look at it this way if something sounds like to good of a deal then it is more than likely a scam ebay is always a option and it is not that expensive if they really are on the up and up and want to sell their item they will go along with it. Just my.02

 

I actually bought my ATI Procharger kit from an offer on this site's classifieds. I am overall happy with it, and it was much cheaper than buying a new one. Just make sure the guy is legit... If it sounds too good of a deal, then its probably a scam. Although I didn't use it, PayPal is the way to go for these types of transactions. They are usually good about reversing transactions for items/services not received or not as described. Just be careful and use good judgment.

 

I never bought anything fro the classifieds here but over on LS1tech.com I did and they all worked out great. They have a policy over there that you have to be a member for 6 months and have posted more than 100 times. If it looks like you just bsed to 100 post to sell something the mods usually wouldn't let you sell anything.
