Just tryin' to beat Raoul,

-until you run out of gas-
-until you reach the bottom of the hill-
-until you flip the aux tank switch-

I didn't get a light with my truck

But I can go another 60+ miles when mines on -E-. I always fill my truck and after going as far as I can stand to go on -E-. I always have a gallon or two left in the tank.

Hopefully I'll never find out exactly.

Cool

H!... 54REGCAB, $25.00 bucks to fill your tank! Must be nice. Here in WINDSOR it costs me about $52.00(CAN) to fill my tank and thats at $0.62 a liter. I finally sent out my computer to SUPERCHIPS today to have my "NO START" problem fixed. Once I get it back I will have to run the good gas, and here it is about $0.72 a liter. That means to fill my tank I am looking at about $70.00(can)!!!!

Neal, too bad there is not a way to get an American credit card, when I go to canada, I charge everything and the credit card does the exchange for me! $100.00 in canada, when I get home it's like only $60.00 on the bill!
I don't like to walk, (or be separated from my Ford) so I hope to never know how far I can go after the light comes on.

Just a reminder not to make a sport of this "going as far as you can with the light on" stuff or eventually it is going to cost you an expensive in tank electric fuel pump. That is part of the reason that the light comes on so soon, along with widespread laziness and procrastination (I am guilty of both). I usually try to fill up at .25 tank. I think there is even some mention of it in the owners manual.

I fill up almost right when the gas light comes on. From that point it takes close to 21 gal. of fuel. 25 gal tank less 21 gal is 4 gal. At 13-15mpg I figure I have aprox 50-60 miles left once the light comes on.

I generally drive for 5-10 miles before I stop and hit the gas station. Like Seacrow has said, I don't want that extra expense. It cost me $25.00 to fill up @ $1.19 a gallon, and I generally have 4 gallons left in the tank when I do.

I wouldn't advise driving "on the fumes" to often either. The previous post about the electric fuel pump is right. It will shorten its life dramatically. My '93 has 2 tanks and the pump in the tank I usually empty first went out because I ran it too low to often (I never ran it dry tho). Luckily, I had two tanks so I wasn't stranded when the pump failed. I replaced it my self because the dealer wanted almost $200 for the pump and $300 labor. It took me 8 hours and $125 (for an aftermarket pump) to do the job (had to pull the tank). When your light comes on, fill up!

Thumbs up

The only time I've really "fumed it" to the pumps is when I was trying to get rid of all the reg gas in preperation to putting on the superchip. Otherwise I try to fill up just before the lite is expected to come on or soon after. My Mom on the other hand will run her tank dry and guess what??? This past Friday, on her way home, she calls me to come get her by the side of the road. When my dad got her Jimmy home and checked it out, he found the fuel pump had gone out on it. Are there any surprises here?? Nope!

I usually go 15 miles after the light goes on if that is the situation, but normally fill up when 1/4 tank is left. Costs approx. $25 but gas is high now here in OH.

NEAL...my hometown is Windsor...Ont....same place? Grew up in Fountainblue and later lived in Remington Park. Close?

I've gone about 30 miles a couple weeks ago while the low fuel light was on. That was coming back to Texas from Oklahoma. I was getting a little nervous, but I just had to wait til I got to Loves (the big cheap truck stop). And that was the time I went the farthest I've ever gone on one tank, 301 miles. I know, it's pretty pathetic But if I wanted great mileage I would have got a Volkswagon.
