Windshield Wiper Sizes

I went to by new wipers today from Wally World. The recommended size is 20". After looking at the pattern of dirt on my windshield, I figured a 21" would fit just fine. It did, but there is still more room. About 1 1/2 to 2" of room.

So heres the questions

1. Will a 23" or 24" windshield wiper fit without hitting the moulding?

2. And if so, is there any reason not to use a bigger blade?

I am interested to see if the aerodynamics would cause a bigger blade to act funny. My Mustang takes a 20" or 21" blade also, so I'm going to slap the ones I just bought onto it.

No opinions about what might fit please. Feel free on the theory side though. I'm going back tomorrow to pick up a bigger pair of wipers, but I'd like to see what you guys who have the bigger blades have to say. Basically, I want to minimize my time test fitting.

If no-one has done this yet, I'll post some pics of them when I figure out what the biggest size that will fit.

whew, that's alot of typing :-X03

I actually asked my dad that a few weeks back. We were sitting in the garage and he was putting a new set on his truck, and I said I bet you can fit a few inch bigger blade. And he said why fool with it. And thats the end of my story.

I am running 22". One thing I don't want to do is run so large that I would be overstressing the motor. Not sure how much it can take with the dag increasing due to larger size blades.

i went with both 22" today, and I found that the passerger side one doesnt quite touch out at the end where the windshield bends in even more, so tomorrow I will be going back to wally world and buying the 21" and putting the 22" back in the box and returning it, hope they dont notice.

I have 2-22'' blades that are made like the Rain-x wipers and it covers the bend around the window with no problems.

You can fit 22" wipers, which I did do, but I'm regretting it.

The shape of the windshield on those outside inches isn't conduscive to have a wiper blade on it.

What I mean is the wiper blade cannot flex enough to be securely up against the glass and cleanly wipe away the water.

Not only that but they move around more now at highway speeds because wind can get underneath the blade.

My 22" Silblades work just fine and have plenty of flex to get the curvature of the windshield...

They do, however, have a tendency to want to 'rise' at higher highway speeds and don't swipe quite as well when you're moving that quickly.

My 22 inch Valeo's work fine, no lifting at speed, as other said they do miss the last inch or so at the passenger side near the parked position.

Got them at the Tirerack buy one get one free!

Hey RP,

I have the Silblade Flexblades. Do you have the Flexblade or the regular Silblade? Maybe it's the Silblade Flexblades that have the trouble wiping on the outside extra inch?
