Was going to clean the EGR valve but I can't get the nut off of the back of the EGR valve. Does anyone know what size it is. I know it's bigger then 1/2 inch.

 

1-1/16".

And the ports in the throttle body are what need cleaning, usually not the valve itself.

 

Thanks, So can I assume that I can just disconnect the EGR valve from the throttle body and remove the throttle body without removing that exhaust tube nut from the EGR ?

 

I would recommend disconnecting the EGR tube nut first then the 2 bolts holding the EGR to the throttlebody elbow, then take the elbow off. With the 1 1/16" wrench you should have plenty of leverage. Clean it all and be careful with the gaskets when taking it apart.

 

Yeah, that's what I do. Remove the 10mm bolt and stud holding the valve to the throttle elbow and leave the valve attached to the EGR tube.

 

All done. I borrowed a wrench but couldn't get the nut loose so I just diconnected the EGR from the tb then removed the tb . Both ports were completly clogged. Seems to idle smoother now( maybe it's just me). Can I expect any mpg improvement ??
