Check me on this before I order...
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 07, and I've been lurking a lot. I want to confirm some things before I pull the trigger.
I think I have better aftermarket options than the factory nav, so I'm planning on ordering with the "audiofile" system (6 disc changer, sub) since that seems to get the best speakers and all. Based on my reading any aftermarket unit should just plug in with a harness.
My understanding is some of the Pioneer units will work with the factory steering wheel controls. I'd need an adapter box. The D3 is one that is mentioned, but I believe the Z1/Z2 (if I want to go that much) are in the same boat. Is that correct? Do any other manufacturers work with the factory controls?
Looks like hooking up the sub to any of these may require an adapater. I can't find anyone who's posted that they have gotten one though. What's the deal?
I'm told the factory speakers sound really good with an aftermarket H/U, so unless you're the type who wants to really thump (which isn't me) there's no reason to replace them.
Stock Satellite antenna can be used with an aftermarket H/U for a cleaner install. I do want Sirius. Can you transfer the 6 month subscription that comes with the truck or do you just have to sign up fresh?
Thanks!

Wow, I must say you have the record here. You joined in 1999 and only have 3 posts! Wow!
Anyway, to answer you question about using the factory sub.....I installed my Poineer head unit and used a harness from Crutchfield. It came with the harness needed to use the sub. Two wires go to the aftermarket remote sub wire (blue/white) and then the two RCA's plug into the aftermarket sub RCA's.
I agree with you - the factory nav is nice, but damn pricey. I use an portable Garmin unit. As far as head units go, all have their pros and cons. Depeneds on what you want it to do. Apline is almost ready to relase the W-205, but is awesome. I believe you can get the adaptor to use the steering wheel controls. I have the Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD - I went that route as I am in Germany and the navigation on the units would not benefit me as they are loaded with US maps. Hence me using a Garmin.
Not sure about the Sirius.....I'm sure they would work with you.
Good luck with the 07. Pull the trigger!

I don't think that the factory antenna will work with an aftermarket Headunit, or a plug and play Sirius unit, also, i believe you will have to get a new subscription instead of overlapping the factory's 6 months onto a new subscription.
