P0743 Code Tcc
Hey guys just need a little help. I have a 02 expedtion witht the 5.4 4r100 and am getting code error of 0743. I screwed around with some of the elec contacts and no fix. I went to Ford to order a TCC but when I got home the guy sold me a TCC for a 4R70, Called him back and he said that is what it is. Does anyone have a scymatic and a part number for the 4R100 TCC or fix for this?
Thanks in Advance.

4r70 TCC Sol # = F8AZ7G136AA About $50 list
4R100 Solenoid Block # = F81Z7G391CB About $300 list.
That might provide you with some further incentive to perform a pinpoint diagnosis.
In the event you find the solenoid block circuit board is burned, Sonnax shows a replacement as part number 36949-01. Soldering required.

code 1742 is a variation of the 743 code and referring to the same problem.
Unless you take it slow and get all the info before acting, you may not have 'good' success as well as spend money over what is needed.
Normally, the solenoid circuit can be tested from outside the trans before taking anythig part, then proceed accordingly.
For this you need a dealer test set or at least lead and contact info for a standard multi meter test.
The PCM knows the TCC circuit is in trouble by inductive signitures when it operates and releases, test for opens, grounds and shorts to other power either in or out outside the trans.
The failure is reported by these codes but it can't tell you exactly where the physical/electrical fault is. (wiring, solenoid etc.) just specifies it as the TCC 'circuit'.
As far as the TCC operation, you should see the operational fault in cruise especially if the truck has a tach.
If the TCC doesnot lock, the rpm will rise and fall quickly by several hundred rpm with light throttle applicatations on and off, indicating the converter is not locked. If locked, the tach won't move fast but will rise slower in conjunction with road speed.
The TCC is normally modulated more than most think. The application of the brakes even lightly or momentary during cruising will unlock the converter a second or so then locks it up again as a normal operation.

Ok, to expand on your point, the TCC could be physically jammed, electricaly crossed with power and keeping it locked or some other fault keeping it engaged.
If locked, and you come to a stop it's like a manuel clutch not disengaged and can load down the engine to almost stall.
A one way sprag diode can cause the same thing if locked up but your codes tells you what areas you have your problem in.
Good luck.

What are you doing ? This thread is over a year old
That's alright, just funny. Try posting your problem in the tranny forum, you may have more luck their. Make sure when you do- post your model/model year/engine size and transmission if you know which one you have.
BTW - Welcome to F150online
