In my owners manual of my 97 it says 210 hp @ 4400 and 290 lb-ft @ 3300 for the 4.6.

Exclamation

While this might not 100% accurate, I can tweak it if you guys let me know of any errors.
This is for 1997/2007 F150 only:

1997-1998 : 4.2L = 210 HP/255 ft-lbs
1999-2000 : 4.2L = 205 HP/250 ft-lbs
2001-2004 : 4.2L = 202 HP/252 ft-lbs
2005-2007 : 4.2L = 202 HP/260 ft-lbs

1997-2000 : 4.6L = 220 HP/290 ft-lbs
2001-2006 : 4.6L = 231 HP/293 ft-lbs
2007-2007 : 4.6L = 248 HP/294 ft-lbs

1997-1998 : 5.4L = 235 HP/330 ft-lbs
1999-1999 : 5.4L = 260 HP/345 ft-lbs
2000-2003 : 5.4L = 260 HP/350 ft-lbs
2004-2007 : 5.4L = 300 HP/365 ft-lbs

2002-2003 : 5.4L Harley = 340 HP/425 ft-lbs

Revised:
1997-1998 : 4.2L = 210 HP @ 5000/255 ft-lbs @ 3000
1999-2000 : 4.2L = 205 HP @ 4950/250 ft-lbs @ 3700
2001-2004 : 4.2L = 202 HP @ 4800/252 ft-lbs @ 3400
2005-2007 : 4.2L = 202 HP @ 4350/260 ft-lbs @ 3750

1997-2000 : 4.6L = 220 HP @ 4500/290 ft-lbs @ 3250
2001-2006 : 4.6L = 231 HP @ 4750/293 ft-lbs @ 3500
2007-2007 : 4.6L = 248 HP @ 4750/294 ft-lbs @ 4000

1997-1998 : 5.4L = 235 HP @ 4250/330 ft-lbs @ 3000
1999-1999 : 5.4L = 260 HP @ 4500/345 ft-lbs @ 2300
2000-2003 : 5.4L = 260 HP @ 4500/350 ft-lbs @ 2500
2004-2007 : 5.4L = 300 HP @ 5000/365 ft-lbs @ 3750

2002-2003 : 5.4L Harley = 340 HP @ 4500/425 ft-lbs @ 3250

1999-2000 : 5.4L Lightning = 360 HP @ 4750/440 ft-lbs @ 3000
2001-2003 : 5.4L Lightning = 380 HP @ 4750/450 ft-lbs @ 3250

and I'm not sure what happened for 2007 4.6. I think I saw a thread around here discussing it. Try the search feature.

Thumbs up 4.2... not a total loss of power...

Right off, I don't see that as a loss of power....

I see Ford claiming that peak HP (202) now occurs @ 4350RPM
and, peak Torque (260) occurs @ 3750RPM.

I see they traded -8HP (from 97 to 07) for +5ft-lbs of Torque (97 to 07).

And really, that seems to be a USABLE power trade. Personally, I'd always trade Torque for HP. It's just more fun.

Over the years, Ford made cam, intake, exhaust and head design improvements to the 4.6 used in the Mustang to steadily increase its HP ratings. I would guess that some of those improvements (probably head and cam design) made it in to the truck version of the engine. The first year the 4.6 was used in the Mustang, it was only rated at (if I remember right) 215 HP. Now, I believe they are up around 265 to 300 HP - I don't remember the exact number, but it is in that ball park.

It maybe 5 ft-lbs more, but it's also at 3750 rpm instead of the original 3000. I'd gladly take the 5 pounds less just because it occurs sooner. I'm a low end torque kinda guy.

^ x2.

Not that your going to tell a difference in the ~8 HP and ~10 lbs of torque through the years anyway.
Heck, that extra torque in the 04 plus models is probably more than offset by the added wieght of the new body style trucks...

Thanks angus242 for that form reference.

Even though the peak power ratings occur later, look at the power curves (if there are any out there right now) because the variable valve timing is adding power to low mid and high ranges.
