i have an 05 FX4...i was using my 4 wheel drive last night ...and i had it in 4hi and went to switch it to 4 low...i stoped...put it in nuetral and turned the switch....i heard and loud clunk sound....and the "wrench icon" showed up on my instrument panel.....i started driving again...but it didnt feel like i wasn is 4low......i ended up getting stuck.....and i shouldnt have...i got out of it on my own...but i never felt in 4 low......i looked in the book and it said to contact the service dealer....i called today and they told me to bring it in.....

my question is...

does anyone know what this means....what broke if anything....thanks

 

I think that the wrench icon has taken the place of the generic "check engine" light in our trucks.

 

I don't use 4Lo much. But I think on one of my last trucks it seemed to go into 4Lo easier if I swithced it while in Neutral, then reversed a little, then forward. Don't ask me why.

 

The wrench light indicates an issue with the drive by wire.

 

Wrench light means Electronic Throttle Control malfunction. It is not a general "check engine light". You need to either scan the code to find out what it is or take it to the dealership.
