different 4.6 engines, what is the difference?

Hello all,

I am in need of a new engine for my 1998 F150. The bad motor is the Windsor (VIN 6). I have many options with rebuilts, but I would like to know the difference between all other 4.6 liter Ford motors out there.

For instance can a 4.6 SOHC motor from a 2001 Crown Victoria fit in my F150?
Can this motor fit in my truck?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-05...QQcmdZViewItem

What needs to be exact for a match with my truck, year of the motor, vehicle origin, VIN code?

Thank you.

that should work... but if you want 100% perfect fitup, get one out of your year of truck, so all the wiring and everything is the same, even though it should be for any of them. the 99+ I believe, have the PI heads, i know its 99+ for the 5.4, not 100% sure about the 4.6.

This e-bay motor says no PI heads. Can you tell me what PI heads are?

Thanks.

2001 and up for PI 4.6's in F150's. Even so, there are lots of 01's that are still non-PI from Ford using up leftovers from the prior year.

So if its 2001 and up, it's about a 75% chance it's PI. 2002+ all 4.6's were PI.

So can I use a 2002-05 4.6 motor in my 1998 F150?

Are the PI heads compatible with the non-PI head intake and exhaust manifold?

Thanks.

the non pi intake willl not work on the pi motor, the exhaust may line up but the egr tube may need modifications

1998 - 2003 5.4L or 4.6L

If you get a PI , it's to your benefit , but you will need a tune for it to rune correctly.

There 's a little more work in hooking a 5.4 up , but it's not bad..So you can consider both..

You have to make sure you get the whole motor - intake, everything..

Are the PI heads compatible with the non-PI head intake and exhaust manifold? no
