How many miles do you have on a 5.4L.

Just bought my 2005 F150 last week. It was a rental truck and I got a pretty good deal on it. It has 39000 miles now and I was kind of worried about the mileage and got the guy to come down on the price of the truck a bit. How many miles have some of you put on these engines?

I have a 2005, just turned 38,200. The important question is how many miles on the 2004 up 5.4, the 3V.

yes sorry it is the 5.4L, 3V is that a good motor and what is the most miles you have heard of someone putting on these. Or is it a fairly new motor that people have not put allot of miles on yet. another question would you recommend buying the service contract, they offer me a service contract of 5 years for 1900 dollars and a 7 year for around 3000 dollars?

By the way I don't plan on pulling anything too heavy maybe a pop up camper, but that is about it. I use my Z71 for that it is older and I don't mind a little bump here or there or getting it dirty. I am very picky when it comes to my nicer truck and I will make sure it gets very little abuse it that matters.
I guess I am just trying to ease my mind alittle but from reading the post in the 4.6 - 5.4 comparison post just wanted some feedback from some 5.4 owners.

i've got 38,080 on my 2005 ..

buying the ESP isnt a bad idea. it covers 500 parts that could break.. which pretty much covers the engine drivetrain suspension. pretty much everything

if your truck has power windows etc. it covers the motors. the door speakers are covered all A/C components.

i think you can check out the Ford website for more info.

i have the 75k/5year ESP plan havent had to use it yet.

the biggest problem i've heard of, with the 5.4, is the spark plugs breaking off in the heads. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE but rather the factory over tightening them..

same with the fact that the factory over tightens the oil filter which can make the first oil change a Biatch..

the 5.4 3v is a good engine (knock on wood) or atleast its been good to me for the past 38k miles

cool, that helps me feel better about what kind of problems it may have had before me so maybe all the kinks have been worked out, now it is just time to drive the thing.

Well here at work we have several high mile company parts chasers. One is an 03 F150 5.4 2V with 248,000 on it. The second one is an 04 F150 5.4 3V with 228,000 on it! The other four are 01-03 V6's and 4.6 V-8'S and they all have over 350,000 on them and are used every day. So yes, they will run pretty much a looong time with proper maintenance.
