1997 Ford Explorer driver side low beam out
Hello,
My first post here, and what do you know, a question
A few weeks ago, my "check headlamp" wanring came on. When I got home, I checked, and could not find any bulbs out...
Then a week ago, I noticed my drivers side headlamp went out(Lo beam, at the time I did not check Hi Beam). I recall thinking that it was odd that the warning system "pre-warned" me as these systems are re-active and not pro-active.
I headed down to the autoparts dealer to get some new bulbs, (9007 series) and opted on two new ones, I am in there already, might as well take care of them both.
Got home and replaced the bulb, and closed the hood (mistake in afterthought). I sit in my rig and being almost dark and parked in front of the garage door I flip the headlight switch. WTF it is still out!
Ok, I know something is not right now. But as it was dark I have only done some testing:
There is no voltage indicated at the lamp connector white colored wire drivers side. (multimeter tested.)
There is no blown fuse, for fuses 4,8, etc.
There is no power at the fuse (multimeter tested.)
The High beams on the drivers side work.
I have read that there is a problem with the Lamp Out Module located under the cup holders (not sure if this module would prevent a light from coming on??). My first thoughts were a bad switch in the column or in another relay that is in place prior to the fuse box. The main headlight on/off switch could not be the problem as it does not have the Hi/Lo beam coming off of seperate leads.
Any ideas or similar experiences would be appreciated, and I will get some more testing done tomorrow!
Best regards,
Thomas

Same problem
I had exactly the same problem last year. I couldn't find the problem so I cheated and spliced a wire from the right sidelow beam pwr to the left white wire. Mistake! It worked for a while and then both sides stopped working. I cut the wire which was connecting the two and still both sides aren't working. If you solve the mistery pls let me know. I've actually pointed the lights down as low as possible and drive with highbeams
Thanks Dave
Thanks Dave
low beam headlights out
I hope I can help some otheres out there, with the same problem (s) that I have had to endure. I have a 97 explorer eddie bauer 5.0 (P.O.S.) . Anyway Thanks to a great friend of mine that is a chevy mech, we decide to look at my exp. my rt. headlight went out the other day, 2 days later , left light goes out. I did just as all of us would do, new bulbs, put them in and nothing. WTF, after about three hours of searching, found a "LAMP OUT WARNING MODULE" under the cup holders in the console. FYI, my highbeams still worked. upon touching this device we could see our tester was flashing on and off, we removed the circuit board did very little soldering, just to get by for now, because the circuit board is actually bad. I hope this helps....I also do have a comment, maybe i am old school or whatever but this has just got to be the most screwed up way for the headlights to work, thanks to Ford, the just want us to bring our cars to them and either spend more money, or just buy another peice of crap that they have put out for our rediculous misery, I also own 2 toyotas 1 is a 1988 truck the other is a 1989 corrolla, that has 227,000 miles on it, I have never had to tear the entire inside out of my car just to find a stupid little box under the console to fix my headlights. Thanks to FORD, I just bought two extra headlights, and now have to purchase a part that will probably cost who knows what.........SCION here I come
