Ford FX2 Grill

I installed my new FX2 grill last Friday. I have to give Ford a high five for bringing out a verry nice style grill. To bad the grill aftermarket mfg's. have been making the same old billit style grills for fifteen years. And try to find anything in black. No offense to the chrome crowd out there. That look is great. But I love the Saleen S331 style black bar grill and this is as close to it as I have found since Saleen wont sell the grill by it self.

Sorry I can't post a pix with this post. I'm just learning how to set up my gallery and I will put some pix of grill in it tomorow.

For those intrested in the new FX2 Grill

Does the grill come in that flat blackish/grey color as on the FX2s or do you need to paint it? I know you have to paint the surround....just wondering about the grill itself. Also, did the Ford emblem come with it? (I asked you this in the other post as well).

Grill must be painted. It comes in light gray plastic and is unfinished. I dont think anyone would mount it unpainted. The grill must be sanded and painted and clear coated. With out a clear coat the color will fade. I had a local paint and body shop do mine. He used the softest black paint he could get but with a clear coat it still to shiney for my taste. I may try some very fine steel wool very lightly to reduce the shine. Remove grill and suround from hood first. You dont want to try to do this while it's attached to the hood. Use caution when removing and reinstalling grill from suround. The clips are very difficult to release. I helped remove and reinstall grill and it took one person to work behind clip with a pick and one to flex the clip tabs to release. Same for reinstalling. Take care or you will break the tabs. This was designed for installation not deinstallation. Grill and suround comes without emblem. You must provide a small Ford emblem. Not the larger emblem that comes on the stock H grill. You will be able to use the nuts from your old emblem.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for all your info, I appreciate it.

Looks like there is quite a bit more work involved than I anticipated. I thought it was a simple swap. I didn't think the grill needed to be painted, or didn't come with another emblem (or a smaller one at that).

Thanks again

its really easy to paint the grill, i just took one can of black interior exterior spray paint from autozone and painted mine, and to pull the emblem off there is two small washer/nuts on the back side, quite easy, dont be so intemidated by this small project. and from what ive read you can swap the grill into your factory surround, and then not have to paint the new surround.

Get this grill and Emblem at fordparts.com cheap

I checked for this grill and emblem at my local dealer and they wanted $170 for grill and $21 for emblem. I checked with www.fordparts.com and the grill is $125 and emblem is 17 with $14 shipping. Ive noticed all there parts are alot cheaper and all ford products. The item numbers are grill #7L3Z-8200-CPTM and emblem #F81Z-8213-AB

I was thinking about ordering the FX2 grill, but I have a couple of ?'s. I dont want to have to paint the surround, so can I just remove the center section? I just ordered some ford racing billet emblems in the larger size, does that mean that I need to get the smaller ones.

Oh, by the way, Have an '06 Scab 4x4

You can use your current surround, but you will have to paint the grill on the FX2 grill. You will also have to buy a new emblem, but the smaller ones are only about $12 to $15 if that!
