6-Disc CD Changer problems

I have recently purchased a '97 F150 Lariat 4x4 and it came with the stock 6-disc changer. When I bought it the magazine was not in the changer and they did not have one on hand. Today I finally got the magazine and rushed home loaded it with CD's and inserted into the changer, punched *CD* on the stereo and it said *NO J* (the same thing it did when the magazine wasn't in the changer)...so I punched the button on the changer to try and eject the magazine and got nothing! I checked all the fuses and none were blown, all the visible wires are hooked up and I'm stumped! I called the dealer and they're gonna take a look, but does anyone in F150land know what might be going on???

Thanks

The stereo said *NO - DJ* - I don't know how I got that little smiley face. Thanks

There should be a mechanical release on the changer. Look for a small hole on the front about the size of a paper clip. Then make sure the CD's are in the proper direction (label up or down). Good luck

I found a hole on the front under a black circular sticker but it did not appear to be the "release" you were talking about. I really didn't want to stick anything in there and by looking it doesn't have anything you would push, switch or release. Help???

I noticed on a 99 Taurus with factory radio with CD button, but no changer attached, that the "NO DJ" would show up. I have had problems with my 97 F150 6 disc changer, but it only says "NO CD" when it can not read the disc. Possibly you have no connection or bad connection from head unit to changer.

You probably will not see any switch or anything, it will have a mechanical release button inside. You won't need much force, gently press straight down. You should feel it move, if not then you may have the wrong hole. I'm not positive they have one, my truck is out so I can't check. Good luck

The radio is saying "No DJ" because it thinks the cd changer (or CD disc jockey as we like to call it) is not there. The wiring harness to the DJ may be disconnected. Since you said the magazine wouldn't eject, it probably doesn't have power going to it. The dealer should be able to remove the DJ and check the harness for you.

Got the truck checked out and it was a loose wire. No Harm, No Foul. Just a little pain in the a**.

Works great now! They told me its a JVC changer, is this true?

Assuming you have the factory installed changer, it is a Clarion.

While replacing rear speakers I noted the CD changer had a sticker with Clarion on it. I have a 97 SC 4X2

Hey Mac,

Where did you get the magazine, and how much? I want to get about three extra ones.

Because the Truck did not have one in it (6-disc magazine) when I purchased it the dealership got one for me for FREE! But it took them almost 2 weeks to get it and it's pretty cheap (quality). When I inquired as to buying extra ones they told me they cost about $20 (which means they're probably $29.99) - just call your dealer, then ask where else you can get one (for 1/2 the price!!!)

Same problem on my trunk mounted unit...

Same problem on my trunk mounted unit, any other fixes? Want to troubleshoot before i attempt to take to a dealer, it is a '99. Fuses look fine, as well as the wires, any input would be appreciated.
