questions about vortech 3v 5.4 charger
ive been on this board for a while but never posted but ive been back and forth with deciding on a centrifical(vortech) or roots/twinscrew(whipple) style supercharger for my 05 5.4 supercrew i spoke to the guy thats going to do the install who has an 04 with the procharger kit and he was telling me that the centrifical kits dont put as much strain on and everyday driver motor but what i wanted to know is am i going to get the power im looking for from a vortech with 12lbs of boost full exhaust e-fans custom tune water to methanol injected , i wanna run 13,s any help would be appreciated
You should easily make all the power you could want with a centrifugal. Since they don't give full boost the instant you go WOT they are a bit easier on the drivetrain but they will pull all the way to redline. Vortech or a D1-SC/3-core IC ProCharger kit will both make plenty of power. Correctly tuned you will never miss the bottom end the positive displacement superchargers are venerable for.
With a twinscrew at 12 PSI you might get in the 13s.But you'll never do it with a cent blower.
Your truck is to heavy. You'll need the bottom end power of the twinscrew to get off the line and some 410 gears would help too.

But I will say the centris(ati at least)need more user input and arent as "set it and forget it" as the twin screws..
father ford if u read this have u ran ur truck with all the mods that uve done if so what was ur time and thanx for everyones replies but if u have 12 psi on a twinscrew and it being a truck and not being able to hook what does it matter if u get all that boost at lower rpm if it builds up like a centri with a water to methanol injected kit set to spray at 3psi than i dont think it would be that much diffrent than a twinscrew am i wrong and will my truck still haul *** and beable to bet alot of other vehicles
This is the 1 run Fatherford posted,

And for him to recommend the Whipple on another post,Im assuming(always a bad idea) that the vortech also has its quirks..
But in all honesty, you 3 valvers have some of the best s/c options in the history of f-150's....When I bought my ati in 10/01...the only intercooled option was the MagnaCharger M90 @ 5psi..The L swaps were few back then. And methanol injection wasnt as prevalent as it is now.But who wants to refill a tank to make power, for that I'd get some nos...
Thanks Phil.Since then Ive put Metco lowers and a Monsterbox from Mad w/ a higher stall..But to take advantage of the stall I need some slicks..If they only rented them @ the track.
..Shoot Id pay 150 for 3 runs on some 28"ers....

I have a 03 Supercrew with a Lightning swap and a Kenny Bell upgrade blower at 15 PSI and never had truble hooking up.
You get what you want! I was just trying to help.

Your funny. That was on M/T street drag tires and the stockers on the front.
Are you letting some air out before you run?

Basic Procharger kit and tuning will net 13's with traction. Meth., full exhaust, and drag radials will bring mid 13's if the driver is even semi-conscious
Vortech is a good unit, if i was to play around with it and practice im sure I could get into the twelves on my 450hp tune.
The instant torque like the roots would be better if you had traction. But as it is now, on the street i will beat my buddys lightings on street tires.
I'm at a deciding point on what to do with my truck. Either im about to go all out, or just put a little better tranny, stall, and a progressive spray on my truck with some slicks. I would do the whipple with a fuel sytem upgrade though if I was to do it all over again.

thanks for everyones help i went ahead with the vortech polished kit just because i got a hell of a deal. It was 3900 out the door shipped to my buddies shop and i figure it might be a little more practical for an everyday driver i just hope that ill be satisfied. If not then its thinking time.
