1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8; distributor rotates counter clockwise. As far as I know, they're all HO engines.

You'd better check that. THere are two distictly different firing orders, and they were used somewhat in random. The 302 also used the 351 firing order on some makes and models.

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 5.0 HO
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 Base 5.0

Also...

The two different firing orders I believe coincide with either one throttle body or two. Ford made a limited number of the 5.0 engines with two throttle bodies as an experiment. Isn't it fun trying to replace plugs 4 and 8 LOL...

you also have to watch the plug wire routing on 7 and 8. they can not run side by side or the could induse a spark and cause predetionation and wost case break a piston. We have seen this at my shop. there are tsb's for this

Unless otherwise specified on the underhood decal, all 1995 Light Duty trucks with a 5.0L used the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order.

This is an excellent point, but it applies more to the older firing order (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8). With the current firing order, you need to keep the wires going to cylinders 6 & 5 completely separated. Any time you have sequentially fired cylinders next to each other on the same bank, you risk creating a missfire if the wires contact each other.

There were lots of differences between the H.O. 5.0L and the non-H.O. 5.0L engines over the years. The H.O. 5.0L was used in several Ford vehicles, not just Mustangs.
