Hi,
I have a 2000 F150, 4x4, 4.6L V8 engine, auto transmission. The owner's manual says the correct oil to use is Ford Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 super premium motor oil.

Somehow I got mixed up and have been using SAE 5W-30 (five - thirty). Will this cause a problem?

Nope. I use 5w30 in mine. There's guys on here who use 10w30 too.

 

My 2000 owner's manual printed in 1999 has 5W30 as the oil to use. The online updated manuals have 5W20 as the oilto use. The 20 will save gas so use what you feel is correct. To answer your question, the 5W30 will not harm the engine. FYI I am using 5W40 Mobile 1 synthetic.

5w30 Castrol GTX Dino Lube.

 

Cheaper than that = John Deere Plus 4 (10w30)

I build them, so for 2000 it should be 5w-30 oil. It was 2002 model year that we switched to 5w-20 I think to lube the head and cams a little better. I've had no problem with 5-30 but depends on your climate too. I could swear 02 was the change in oil year, not 01. I use mostly castrol GTX because John Force is my homeboy, haha, hotty daughters too. I'm thinking of switching to high mileage blend.

 

Sorry, not 02. My 01 stated 5w20. And it won't hurt to use the 5w20. If you search on the internet for UOA (used oil analysis), you will find that the 5w20 synthetic blend will do better that the 5w30 and 10w30 oils.

 

I use motorcraft 5w30 in my 97. I get all my power from the K and N sticker my neighbor gave me when he put a K and N on his truck.

 

I bet you get as much power out of that K&N as my cotton picker does out of its NOS sticker. Guess I'm not the only one that does that.
