I dont know what is up but I took a trip from Houston to New Orleans. Little headwind on the way there from looking at the flags blowing but they looked normal and when I got out to break I didnt notice wind, weather was great. I made it on one tank all highway maybe 10 miles of city driving and all highway at 74-78mph cruise control for the most part.
About 16.5 mpg there.
On the way back seemed like I had a little tailwind from looking at the flags blowing, but still seemed like no wind when getting out to break.
When I got back it was around 18.2 on the mpg meter. Had it up in the 19mpg range when I kept it below 75 at first then kinda sped up to closer to 80 on some portions towards the end.
Never got into it or anything and didnt catch much traffic from what I remember.
It has 2000 miles on it so I assume it is not broken in yet. I changed the tires but they only weigh 3lbs more than the factory ones and didnt notice a change immediately after changing them.
Truck runs great and strong. Probably just needs to be broke in.
Seem normal? Nothing I will loose sleep over but was really hoping to test out this Eco thing.

My old 2002 4x4 Scab with 5.4 got 16.0 mpg driving from Wilmington NC to Homestead FL on two different occasions. It's almost all 4 lane with 65 to 70 speed limits, mostly 70mph. I set the cruise on 80mph. I do have a Superchips program that helped a little. I have a camper shell but I don't think they help fuel economy.

Interesting, one time I took a road trip in a 5.4, 2004 f150 lariat 4x4 bone stock, display said like 14 there and on the way back around mid 12s. Houston to Kansas on a hunting trip.
Anyway, we did bring back a couple deer.
Anyone else with the 3.5 ecoboost getting less than 20 at 75-80? Kinda thought about it and that is about what I travel at and I am in the left lane primarily.

The government highway test tops out around 60MPH which just happens to be where aerodynamic drag really starts to pick up, but the government test is done on a dyno so this isn't accounted for. At 75+ your mileage will be noticeable less than what the window sticker shows.

I have a little over 9k miles on my 3.5 EB now, and I'm averaging 17.0 MPG. It was much lower in the beginning, around 15 MPG. About half of my driving is stop & go, the other half is a steady 60 MPH. Round trip to work is about 80 miles.
I thought I would get better mileage, but I'm glad its much better than the 13.5 MPG I was getting with my '04 F150 5.4 V8.
Not interested in buying a Prius... dead deer don't fit too well in the back of a car... ask me how I know. Definitely interested in the mileage others are getting with their 3.5 EB though.

I average anywhere from 14 - 18 on the highway (70-75 MPH). Living in North Dakota we do have extreme weather though. Interstate driving is **** poor. I can get 20+ MPG with the cruise set on 55 - 60, but who does that?
My '14 is 4X4, SuperCrew, 6.5' box, trailer tow package (big wind-catching mirrors) and slightly bigger tires (stock rims). Custom tuned as well, with 42K Miles.
On the other hand, my wife's 2015 Explorer Sport with the same engine is far better. I average 20 - 25 MPG Highway/Interstate driving, generally around 22 though.

Granted my current truck is a 2011, but....I drove from the land mass between Louisiana and Alabama to Tampa. I set the cruise on 70, because I was going on vacation and didn't want to get raped in gas costs. I stopped in Tallahassee to visit a friend and eat lunch, then finished my drive on US Hwy 19, going through the little cities, and keeping my cruise set at 70. Once in Tampa I drove around the city a little visiting friends and eating dinner then to the airport the next morning and back home the same route. I didn't get a good reading on any of the just highway, freeway or city, but when I got home combined I got about 22 mpg.
When they get the EPA fuel mileage rating the highway rating is not the freeway. Highway is the little four lane roads that normally have speed limits set at 65 and normal access (as opposed to the limited access exits/on ramps). Freeways are roads like, I-10, I-75, I-35, etc. Highways are roads like US Hwy 19, US Hwy 90, US Hwy 66, etc. Obviously the highways sometimes take on the attribute of a freeway or city driving, but that is freeway or city driving driving not highway. City is obviously stop and go driving.
