Took the truck back to the dealership for the CEL (P0315) that I got after the PCM was reprogrammed. All fixed. Apparently Ford is aware of this issue because there is a special service message #698298 to deal with this by doing a "misfire monitor neutral profile correction" with a scan tool.

I don't have any experience with Safelite. I've read both negative and positive comments on them. I went to a local shop who does work for some of the dealerships around here and was told they use OEM Ford glass. The repair was quick and easy.

BTW I took the truck out and tried it on a road where I could make the hard shifts happen and the TSB fixed the problem.

I got my truck back late yesterday afternoon. I have tested out the Sport Mode twice now and the TSB appears to have corrected the hard shift issue for me. The steering wheel extend/retract vibration was felt by the tech and they have determined I need a new steering column. This is back ordered until around 12/15 so they will call me once it is in. I will update once the repair is complete.

Have you told your dealer about the harsh shifting, joe t.? If it happens often, I'd recommend taking the tech on a test drive so you can demonstrate it. What's the current mileage on your truck?

Since I put on almost this 36,000 miles per year, any TSB that would pertain to a new vehicle I purchase would be be at my cost after one year? Is there any reason for Ford Motor Company to get these TSB's rushed to market, or is there more incentive to drag their feet?

Hi WT,

It's always wise to confirm coverage with your dealership's service manager, but typically speaking, yes - TSBs are covered during the 3 year/36,000 mile (whichever comes first) warranty.

I have an F150 5L 4x4. Symptom I noticed was intermittent clanking on downshift and I couldn't say for sure that it was only gears 5 to 4. That is what I reported to the dealer. They (it may have been the transmission tech, not the service adviser) identified the TSB and performed the reprogramming recommended. It is too soon to tell if there is a difference. The action changes a few other things as well, such as: resets oil change, tire pressure display goes to --. After a few minutes the tire pressure redisplays correctly. Took the dealer less than an hour.

I've not noticed this in normal driving. Do I need to put it in sport-mode to notice this?

No, it doesn't need to be in sport-mode to have the 5-4 harsh downshift.

Welcome to the forum, gh ga. Are you experiencing any symptoms now that it's been a few days? What's your truck's model year/mileage? I'm here if you need any assistance.

I had the PCM updated today with the latest update. Seems to have fixed my hard down shift problem. It will trigger the check engine light so make sure they clear that.

Now I'm finally noticing the harsh downshift to 4th. Guess I'll have to take it in to the dealer.
