Reading my owners manual like a good new owner would, I came across the following information on page 306.
Fuel Filter
"Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime Fuel Filter that is integrated with the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not required."

ok, I know what it says but wondering how it works?
Big filter in tank? Can't fill it up is 300k?...or self cleaning?
wondering and just trying to understand.
Does anybody know how this system is designed and functions?

I don't know about the F150 filter, but I have owned a couple of corvettes that had the filter in the tank like this and was told by the dealership that the fuel sloshing around in the tank cleans the filter.

 

My '12 has the in-tank filter as well. No obvious problems in 98,000 miles...

 

Same for my Lexus, or so the dealer claims.

 

I think it was started in 2011. I put 85,000 on my 2011 before trading it and had no problems. Sounds scary to me though.

 

Thanks guys, just what i was looking for. My last ride was a 2007 f150scab with 4.6 and it surely had a fuel filter.
