How to secure the truck when surfing

Here's the deal, the auto unlock is a pain in the rear. I surf, and in the past I'd simply use the valet key to lock my 4Runner with the fob inside the vehicle.

Apparently that's not an option with the "smart" key. The moment I use the valet key to lock the driver door the other three doors unlock. I've tried every combination of locking techniques I can come up with to no avail. Any way I can turn this function off? Cheers

I think the lock is backwords. Turn towards the middle of the door to lock (turn left)

Or try lock button on door panel and then shut the door

Nope, tried both. The fob has a RF signal that prevents you from locking the keys in it. There's gotta be a way to kill it outside of taking the battery out.

Have you tried using the number pad on the door? Hit the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same and hold them both until it locks. That should do it for you.

What if you hid the key in the engine bay somewhere, and it was far enough away from the cab that it can't read the key anymore. You could still use your valet key to open cab to open hood....

Did these not work?

Manual P.67 - You can still lock your vehicle with the key
in the ignition by:
• Using the manual lock on the inside of
the door.
• Locking the driver door with a key.
• Using the keyless entry keypad.
• Using the lock button on the remote
control.

or

Manual P.68 - In order to override the smart unlock
feature and intentionally lock the
intelligent access key inside your vehicle,
you can lock your vehicle after all doors
are closed by using the keyless entry
keypad, pressing the lock button on
another intelligent access key or touching
the locking area on the handle with another
intelligent access key in your hand

I hope it works for you! Technology is great until it screws something up that used to be simple

WOW, dizzy reading the instructions. Seems like you will still have a intelligent access remote in your hand.

Is it possible different ignition systems (traditional key vs. keyless push button) operate differently? What system do you have? On my platinum I sometimes lock my fob in the truck and unlock again using the keypad on the door.
