I think what is worse than totaling it is being forced to have it repaired...I would be surprised if it totalled...At $45-50k for it new you can buy alot of parts for approximately 80% of those numbers...

I commented on another post about shops being qualified to work on these...would be real interesting to see what came of this...

If that frame is as bent as it looks I bet its totalled. I think a bent frame necessitates a total?

I'm sure the frame is bent...

I would be throwing-up if that was my truck!

I worked in a body shop for 11 years...frames were straightened all the time...
I think that it is why I was throwing out the ...what if they fix it...the insurance companies used to fix up to about 80% of the vehicles value...I wouldn't want it back! Isn't that why we go buy shiny new cars...so we can have something pristine for a while.

I think it would be easier to straighten the stripes on a candy cane before you straighten that frame. lol

NO way that was 35MPH. kid was probably jumping the speed bumps. 35 MPH won't push a truck 2 houses away.

Ya'll need to get some cell phone laws passed there.
A few years ago, in San Angelo, a girl was texting and run through the median and killed a guy on a motorcycle. She only got a ticket for leaving her lane. She should have gone to prison...........
Totally agree!

Only cell phone law here is in school zones.. But of course they don't enforce it. Have seen many cops cruising through the school zone on the phone. A month or 2 there was a motorcycle cop on his phone in the school zone. Cant say i have ever seen a motorcycle rider talking on the phone and riding.

One thing i like about using Sync is when my phone is on bluetooth it silents all notification's, nice going down the road and not hearing the phone go off.

You can do a lot of damage at 35-40 mph.

The steel truck reportedly hit at 40 mph:

The officer said Arsenault’s truck, facing west on Tittabawassee, was stopped at a stop sign at River when Dore experienced a “medical issue” causing her to rear-end the truck at about 40 mph.

Looks like the crumple zones worked perfectly on both vehicles. Energy absorbed.

Interesting comment considering my 01 has a plastic bed. They are also the ONLY panels on the entire truck not hail damaged.

Look again. That's a head on crash into a SOLID unyeilding object. In the crash in the OP, the crumbing of the bumper, bed and frame of the F-150 absorbed more of the energy than the short crumple zone of Toyo did. ALSO pushing both the F-150 and toyo two houses down the road absorbed even more energy. Fed tests are designed to be worst case scenario where ALL of the crash energy goes into the crash vehicle instead of being dissipated into other vehicles and surrounding objects. Judging by the amount of damage in the OP, I'm still of the opinion that it was close to four times the energy that was dissipated in the fed test. And coincidentally, doubling the speed, from ~30 MPH to ~60 MPH also increases the energy 4 fold. IMO that's what the Toyo was doing when he hit the F-150.

YMMV

Regardless of the speed of the Toyota, it still brings a tear to the eye.

I'm in agreement with everyone else who believes that cell phone laws need to be tougher and actually be enforced. I have a customer who's been caught three times using a handheld device (which is agains our provincial law) and he admits that it's more dangerous than driving drunk in his opinion.

With all the fancy junk on vehicles these days phone companies or car engineers need to come up with a text deactivation while the vehicle is running. It would suck for passengers, but maybe it's a necessity. This could have been really bad if someone was behind the truck loading something.

The manager of the body shop that just repaired my car said it would cost him about $80k for training and equipment to get Ford certified to repair the aluminum trucks. Even though they had been repairing aluminum paneled Audis for years.
