The 2015 Mustang has a 4 cylinder 2.3 Ecoboost, the 3.7, and 5.0. The Shelby GT350 won't be out for another year and will have a 5.2. The EB and 5.0 are rated with 93 octane fuel.

Also, I just read that the 3.7 only accounted/accounts for 15% of the market share.
The common architecture is the same for the 3.5 N/A and 3.5 EB, as well as the 3.7L. The 3.7L was just a bored out version of the 3.5. None of them are pushrods, they are all DOHC.

Either way, the engine in the '15 F150 was going to need to be updated. May as well update the 3.5L and use the smallest engine possible that will do the job and eek out just a tad bit better MPG. Due to the smaller bore size, I would surmise that the 3.5L is slightly less expensive to produce than the 3.7L.

The NA 3.5 has actually been around longer than the 3.7. The 3.5 Ti-VCT is also used in the Edge, Flex, Taurus, and Explorer.

Yup, that's right. Can't wait to see that 5.2 Voodoo. Really want to see what they do for the new GT500 though.

As the shop foreman at a small school district we need a small cheap engine. The 3.7 in the 3 2013's we have has fit out application perfectly. No reason to complicate repairs or expenses with twin turbos or direct injection.

There is still plenty of use for the base engine in a reg cab short wheel base 4x2 it wont be too bad for the lack of power it has. The one thing I don't like about it is that it has less power than the base engine from the 2011 to 2014 years. The base engine would fill my needs for what I use my truck for as its my daily driver I drive back and forth to work. I just like the extra power I can get from a bigger engine or even the smaller 2.7 Eco boost.

The truck is also considerably lighter. That should make up for it.
