Ford Motor Co.’s 2015 F-150 was named the overall winner as Detroit automakers picked up five awards in Kelley Blue Book’s 2015 “Best Buy” awards.

The California-based vehicle information company unveiled the winners in the inaugural awards Monday morning, saying Ford’s aluminum-bodied pickup took the top spot because of its advanced technology and effective engines.

General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet brand won four awards for its Corvette, full-size Impala, Tahoe SUV and electric Volt. Honda Motor Co. won five awards and Toyota Motor Sales Inc. and Mercedes-Benz each won one.

“After carefully analyzing a wealth of data and conducting extensive vehicle testing and evaluation from the hundreds of models available for the 2015 model-year, we chose this year’s elite group of 12 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award winners because they proved to be the top values in their class,” Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, said in a statement.

The F-150 was also named best truck.

“Our group of expert vehicle testers chose the Ford F-150 as the overall winner in our Best Buy Awards because of its breakthrough aluminum body structure, its smooth and fuel-efficient powertrains and its impressive collection of thoughtful features,” Nerad said. “Offered in a wide variety of body styles and with a wide variety of engines, it is a suitable vehicle for a broad cross-section of the public, and the final piece is the F-150 is available for about the same price as the previous generation truck, which was a bestseller.”

Ford launched the first production F-150 last week at its Dearborn Truck Plant and said the pickups will arrive in showrooms next month.
